last night I finished the engine swap in my 88 TC and also change the fog lights, the right side worked and the left side didnt so I looked further into why it wasnt working. well what I found was the ground terminal was rusty so I changed the end and the lights started to flicker and then they both starrted to flicker and inside the car there was a clicking sound then they stopped working. I checked all of the fuses and didnt find any bad ones. anyone have any ideas? thanks Graham
possible that the headlight switch or the foglight switch took a dump
Um, i know kind of off topic, but did you swap in a 5.0?
nah was another 2.3 sorry :D I have pics of the car if anyone would like to see
id like to see it! :D
If i remeber there is a relay for the fog lights. With All the clicking sound that you said you heard I'd say that is you problem. Eveytime I 've had a relay make that kind of sound it went out then or soon after.
that's also what I have been thinking, wich relay is it? and can I swap them around to see if that is the problem? thanks
theres no relay, power goes directly through the switches
yes there is a relay look at the pic of the wireing diagram
Not on 1987-88 Turbo Coupes...they're routed directly through the switch. Same thing with 1987-93 Mustang GT's. Both are notorious for frying switches and intermittent fog light problems. For the TC there is an excellent article here on how to solve the problem:

yeap
so my problem is the switch huh.. no relay at all in my 88? I would really like to get them working again. Graham
here is a similar but more exact pic........
follow-up: tested the foglight wiring that goes to the switch with a test light and I got no voltage with the headlight switch in the on position with the low beams on. any other ideas?
you try replacing the headlight switch?
havent replaced the switch, but I have taken it apart to see if everything looked normal.
thinking about hard wiring the fog light switch... any pros-cons to doing this?
Use a relay, and good wire. Not that thin stuff. Also, solder the wires, and use heat shrink due to the wetness that can occur under the hood.
when I tried to jump the foglight switch it arced like both wires were grounded. could a bad relay do that? I guess I need to take it apart and look further.
there are no relays
Just a question. Are you running higher wattage headlight bulbs? If so, you need to re wire the system with a relay, or you are going to be destroying headlight switches left and right. Its worth the effort, because he stock switch is barely adequate for the stock system.
I dont know what bulbs I have. I bought them from the junk yard when I got my engine
tested bulbs tonight and bulbs are good, still no power to the switch. where does the power for the fog switch come from? I didnt notice any wires with the same colors going to the headlight switch when I had it apart today.
....
power to the fox light switch comes from the headlight switch
here we go, check fuse position number 7, its a blue, 15A fuse, its for your fog lights only
your fog light switch will only get power when the headlights are on, and only the low beams
