Ok, well I did a search and couldn't figure out what I needed to know.
Here is how far I've gotten, what's next to get this thing detached?
Everybody keeps saying there is a pin that has to be punched out, I don't see it. I'm a little cnfsd.
LOL there is a pin. I'm only laughing cause its been so long since I did that I don't remember... move it up and down maybe you'll see it
Its under that black plastic thing where the shifter meets the column. I can take some pictures if you want, I just did this not too long ago and still have all the parts sitting around.
The first pic shows shifter still attached to the rod that runs down the column. The second shows what is under the little plastic piece. The third shows the pin in the shifter arm. I could not get the pin out of mine no matter how hard I tried so I just cut it off.

AHAH!!! I was thinking that was it but wasn't sure... Now I know Thanks
I am suddenly having de ja vu from removing the column shaft in mine! LOL!
yeah, I'm combining it with a whole bunch of PITA projects at once...
Tilt wheel install, heater core replacement, evaporater removal, underdash rewire.... :toilet:
Sounds like you just need to start removing the steering column entirely first so you can remove the rest of the dash to get to the heater box and evap. Take your time. It is not as bad as it seems to get the dash out so you can work behind it. Once you get the heater core and evap back in place, then you can reinstall the dash and lastly put in the tilt column in place of the non-tilt one. The column is really the last major componant you put back in place during the dash removal and reinstall.
You do not have to remove the shifter shaft from the column if you are swapping out the entire column for a tilt wheel column. If the tilt wheel column has a shifter shaft then you can remove it before installing it into the car.
I didnt take the column shifter into consideration when I gave my advice , sorry :shoothead
