Picked this up last night for 500 bucks. Very little rust (just a little surface rust around the middle of the drivers door and around the trunklid - otherwise this thing is solid). Couldn't find any V8 birds/cats around so I picked this up. So far it's awesome, the HO is a lot different to drive than my previous Cougars. Of course, it's got it's issues, like power windows aren't working(I can't even hear them), and of course the air ride bleeds down after sitting all night, and I have no power assist in my brakes at all... but she runs great and shifts smooth, and I love the sunroof (which actually works great LOL). It feels really good to be into a fox again. Anyway, here's the pics....

Congrats Joe , Thanks for posting your pics. :D
Dan & Paula ;)
that's a good deal for 500.. looks like a good platform for a great project.. wrong wheels though! hahah just kidding
Congrats !!! what year model ?
I was actually looking for an LSC when I got my Bird instead
Oh BTW PM me your address and I will send you the Mark VII emblem for the right side of your dash for free (I have 8 or 10 of them )
Thanks Dan :D
This is my first Mark. I was actually looking for a Cougar when I saw this on CL. It's a 1987 model. I would greatly appreciate the emblem. I'll pm you my address.
* some random wrong stuff*
I am shipping some other stuff tomorrow so I will pop the emblem in the mail for ya ;)
So how would I know if someone didn't just throw an HO plate on there? I know there is a thread somewhere about decoding a vin.... That should tell me, wouldn't it? And thanks again for the emblem!
more hypo being a dumbass
I thought "W" was the HO code and "F" is the SO, either way, there is no "F" in my VIN, so hopefully it's a real HO lol.
That's an '86 or '87, and it looks in a lot better shape than mine was for 475. The vin code for the HO those years was M, and it's the 8th digit over.
What color are the injectors? Orange=HO
check out this link it says stuff i should read more carefully
http://thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/documents/specifications/1987/LSC/1987LSCSpecifications.pdf
That will tell what he has , but not necessarily what it came with:D
Well, my vin code is M but my injectors are orange and I have the tubular headers on a stock exhaust. When I was browsing through the autozone website, (I know, not very credible, but helps my argument LOL) they had "M" for HO and "E" for SO I am confused now LOL
it was probably swapped at some point
Well if you have orange injectors its an HO so that is a good thing .
87 is a weird year for those cars , it quite possibly is stock .
Mine was an 88 and I LOVED it
Actually after a little more research it seems M is 200 HP HO E is 225 hp HO
so either way you have an HO
I mis-spoke earlier apparently its the 225 HO that is rare in 87
According to my info all 85 and newer LSC's had a version of the HO, with M as the VIN digit. In '85 it was 180 horses (base Marks had a 140-horse CFI non-HO), 86-87 it was 200 (non-LSC models shared our wonderful non-HO 5.0 @ 150 horses), and 88-92 it was 225 (all 88-92 Marks had the HO).
Well, I am pretty confidient it is an HO, whether it is stock or not, dosen't bother me too much as it would become an HO anyway LOL
It hasn't taken much for me, there is a lot to love...:D ANybody know if the axle code on these are the same as the bird/cougar?
Thats what I just figured out , I should read things more thoroughly before I post :hick:
The M code 200hp 5.0 is a HO with e6se heads on it, the same as Thunderbird and 1986 Mustangs. When Ford put the better flowing e7te heads on the HO it went up to 225hp and became the E code.
Maybe the 225 hp was with the E-7 heads??
**EDIT** I posted this at the same time as 5.0 bird above......LOL
http://www.thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/tech/axleCodes.pdf
And Yes the 225 is the E7s' it appears they were exhausting the supply of 200 hp 5.0s I guess . who the heck knows
Thanks for the link. Looks like I have a non- locker and 3.27's.
That's all I can figure too because the Mustang used the 225hp E code the entire 1987 model year. The Mark VII LSC was the only car in 1987 to use the M code. :hick:
i know an easy way to find out for sure.. check the firing order lol
Cool you c00ched up a Mk7. Those are pretty rare around where I'm at.
I like those, I just can't stand the front lights or the tail end... Other than that, I would love to have one myself.
Right on, not bad for $500:cool:
Thanks dude, I really don't like the ass-end much either, but, nonetheless it's a fox, and I couldn't find a V8 cat around here. Plus, it's already HO (although with the E6's) which saves me some time and cash LOL.
When I lived in Tampa, it was a very rare occasion for me to see one. Mine has been local it's whole life.
Yeah, ik. Gotta love that roofline:cool:
I love the tail of the VII :D
I actually hated to sell mine when I did , but cirspoogestances forced the sale .
But my Bird is identical minus the 4 wheel disc , air suspension and moonroof .
Air suspension..:punchballs: That is on the top of my "To Do" list for the Mark.... just not sure what exactly LOL
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a little research and see how simple the system is before you spend any money on a coil spring conversion kit.
It is usually easier and cheaper to fix the air system than to convert it .
this place is here in East TN and his prices are good

Well, I have been doing a little bit of research (not much yet) and so far it seems as though I have a bad pump, it runs, but does nothing. The PO collapsed the valve stem on the pump that points towards the motor and screwed on an extended valve stem with a cap onto the busted one, I have to fill the suspension with a gas station pump by removing the extended valve and filling it through the busted stem and if I don't get the cap on there fast enough all the air bleeds out...
Sounds like he goofed it up alright
Nice score:D
A $500 Mark VII around here would have so much rust you might mistake it for Swiss cheese......
While the rust isn't bad, it does have 289,000 miles on the clock:hick: Still runs and shifts like a beast! I found out today I am only the third owner, the original owner bought it here and sold it about a year and a half ago to the dude I bought it from. I also found almost a book full of warranty documents, some from Ford and some from outside carriers, it's pretty interesting.
Got a lot of work done on the Mark in the past few days. Got my power windows working, changed the oil, replaced the valve cover gaskets, plugs, wires, cap and rotor, new MSD coil, fuel filter, air filter, changed tranny fluid/filter (which was surprisingly clean, didn't find a trace of any metal shavings in the pan) got my power assist braking back, and refilled the air ride via the shrader valve on the compressor and turned the air ride off and it hasn't leaked down a bit! (Still more work to do to get it functional, but at least it's off the ground LOL).
I also polished my lights. I used the 6 dollar turtle wax kit at wal mart, and I am pretty impressed with the results for the price.

How much power does the beer can add?
Thats for wet sanding, instead of using water :mullet:
Alcohol injection.....:hick:
I didn't realize the bottle was in the pic 'till after I posted,,,,,
Dude , is this your car ?
http://lexington.craigslist.org/cto/1993235647.html
No, but it looks just like it minus the wheels..... And if I had the cash, I would be all over it...
welcome to the club. you got to keep the air ride! I have two 89's one coil and one air. I wish I had two air!!!!!
on air LSC

on coils Bill blass

My air ride isn't really functional yet (bad compressor) but no way I'm swapping to coils. I've looked at your satin black Mark quite a few times...... Nice job. I'd like to find some of those 16" turbines with the polished lip.... those would look badass
So the Mark has come a long way since I brought it home. Air ride is fully functional, brakes (minus the ABS) are fully functional. I have been doing a little bit here and there, it gets hard to do anything major because it is still my DD for another month or two.
I also painted the intake and installed a strut tower brace (done a few minutes ago..). I still need to touch up some areas (on the brace) and do away with the hideous coil wire (when I replaced the wires the coil wire in the box was too short) and clean the engine bay some more, but right now I am pretty happy with the way it is coming along. Let me know what you guys think... good or bad!

Looking Good bro !!
Looking good. I didn't know Mark VIIs had the coil on the passenger side.
Thanks! It's weird. I had no idea until I replaced the wires the first time, and I guess being on the pass. side requires a longer coil wire. I bought a universal set of plug wires, guess that's why the coil wire didn't fit.
Thanks dude. Now I really need to send you that intake plate......
Hell, I thought it was already on its way
x2...I found that rather odd myself.
Yep. It sits underneath a bunch of connectors and vacuum lines for the smog system, kinda hard to find if there is no coil wire.
Keeps slippin' my mind....
Took it out for a drive.... between the new Moog heavy duty swaybar endlinks (mine were missing lol) and the brace the overall feel of the car is a lot better. Steering is a little more responsive and front end seems to have stiffened up a bit as well. Overall not bad for a 15 dollar mod and 2 hours worth of time:hick:
Have you removed the air silencer from the front of the air filter intake? Believe it or not it make a big difference!!
That was the first thing I did when I got it home;)....... It did seem that the air silencer in the VII was bigger than the one I pulled out of my Cougar.
