hi
does anyone know how long a speedometer cable is for a 1984 mercury cougar? they have several sizes one is 72 inches long one is 81 incheslong and then they have one that is like 121 inches long that says cut to fit. im going to replace the cable as the needle bounces around when i hit bumps and it is very jittery when taking off. im hoping this will cure the problems.

When in doubt take the old one off and take it with you. If your are ordering it that will make sure you have the right one. If your outer part is in good shape you can just get the cut to fit and slide that in the old outer part. Make sure you clean and lube the inside where the cable goes. From my experience that floppy speedo if from the cable getting weak and bouncing like a spring.
