Title: Lucky day!
Post by: Silent-Er@sEr on September 19, 2010, 07:58:00 PM
I just Got lucky. due to my mother in-law's boyfriend doing a little OWI
he gave her his car. She lives with me and has not paid rent in 2 years. she gave the car to me. i was like what ever. then i did some research. i have 1 of 89 car craft convertible cougars made in 86' red with red interior white top. in good condition. all original with 83K miles. now i just have to figure out what it's worth. it has the 5.0 motor. and yes it has sticker in the door with convert date and serial number and the silver brushed aluminum CAR CRAFT badge on the trunklid. I'll try to get some pics up.http://www.coolcats.net/fox/convertible.html (http://"http://www.coolcats.net/fox/convertible.html")

as of right now because i am not an a$$ i will holding the car until he gets out. cause i will sell it back to him first. but if he don't want it back IDK what i want to do I am a 5.0 guys but in a mustang :) i am torn cause i had to sell my convertible 91 stang 2 years ago. and i know the sale of this would get my ride back. but for now i am just looking into value and if i should clean it up or because it is all original. if i should just leave it the way it is.

Before you start thinking you've hit the lottery, ask that "friend that's into cars" if HE will give you $20,000 for it. I can tell you right now, he will start stammering and back pedal with lightning speed. He will say, "Well, it should be worth that to someone who is into them, I am just not into them." But, of course, even though he is not into them, he IS qualified to estimate its value.

I am not saying it's not a valuable car, because it is (and it's beautiful too). I just don't think it's worth that kind of money. It's a relatively rare car, but there are also not that many guys into them. I have a four door Edsel that is pretty rare too. Does that make it valuable? Anyway, you're doing the right thing by doing the background research. Just don't think you can quit your job and retire on the profits. Personally, if you can afford to keep it in the shape it's in, I think it's better than money in the bank. They are getting more rare every day, especially in that condition. It's definitely a keeper. Whatever you decide, Good luck!!

Agreed. These cars do not bring top dollar, even in the extremely rare convertible form. The only way you'd get $20k for that car at an auction is if you had at least two very rich guys who were very into 80's Cougars and always wanted a convertible bidding against each other on it.

Maybe... MAYBE, ten grand. If it's perfect. And it wouldn't likely sell immediately at that price (IE you'd have it listed for a long time and would probably have to go national).

I did not say i was gettin that for it. btw 1 for sale http://nationalmotorsales.com/addetails.php?slno=1303 (http://"http://nationalmotorsales.com/addetails.php?slno=1303") cannot see a post date on that and it is the v6 model mines v8.  and remember i got it FREE so 8k 10k 20k is all Profit. retire hardly get me a 88-92 mustang Defantly! as for keeping it Long term I cannot afford to put full coverage on a car that i do not drive daliy so it will go for sale at auction first with a Reserve. if it fails to sell then i will sell it out right at least the auction might give me a clue as to what the Market is for it.
