Title: Fuel Pump Q?
Post by: SeanO on September 19, 2010, 05:28:27 PM
Stock 5.0 Thunderbird 1988 w/OG fuel pump that just went out.

Can I replace it with any style pump?  Mechanic is saying there are two different style pumps for this car, or something.  I just need to know if that's correct and what the replacement pump is I can use.

Please let me know ASAP, this is an I'm stuck in a city far away emergency,

The pump itself can be used from a Mustang 5.0HO, just reuse your pick up tube, etc. Get a new sock for your car though, but use the Stang pump.

And before someone says it doesn't work....I'm just one of many who have a Stang pump in our cars..I have a Walbro 225 from a Mustang...works great.

Good luck!

Can I use an aftermarket Airtex to get me by for the time being?  Mechanic keeps saying something about the stock fuel pump being a different style unit, etc, but I thought you can use any fuel pump if it meets LPH requirements and fitting.

Maybe it's time to get a different style of mechanic.
