Anybody have any suggestions on a seat I can put in rearfacing that won't cause me to lose half my interior space? With the one I have that's the step up from the carrier thing (which is killing my back) I end up losing the ability to use my passenger seat without the person eating the dash. Thanks for any info.

try putting her in the middle, this is where we have ours and she fits right between the seats.
Yep,when my youngest was but a wee lad,I had his car seat in the middle of the back seat.Just right.
Tried that, I think the seat I got is just on the massive side, lol. I'm going to weld in some latch system hooks because the seatbelts don't get along well with that seat either... Good seat, bad old car compatibility...
In the middle parts of it are wide enough that I can make the pass side seat move freely but then I lose some of the recline in my seat and it's just not comfy (I have to sit all the way forward so I need the recline, lol)
How come the seatbelts don't get along? Are they too short? They do have extenders for them .I have a couple of them in the garage if you need one.All I'd need is your address to send it to you.
They're actually too long! It's kind of rediculous...
Are you saying for a baby car seat? At 4 months I think it is you can go to a more booster like seat with the three buckle style. I hated the rear facing baby seat in my wifes neon. I couldn't fit in the front seat, or recline it no matter which side we put it in, and there wasn't enough room in the middle. I felt stupid having my wife drive everywhere while I sat in the back with our kid.
Also, I got pulled over with the kid in the car one day, and the officer told me that unless you have all those stupid anchor points in the back seat, you cannot put a rear facing car seat in the car.
wow that cop was totally wrong...
All the states have different laws but at least here they are supposed to be rear facing till they're 1. My friend's dr told her she could turn her daughter sooner since she's tall though and looked older than 1 (not like the baby has a license the cops can check).
I found an aftermarket kit to install all those anchors which will make life easier. I just ordered another car seat which should work and it was cheap too so it'll make a good spare for when she's older and I can turn her around.
I'm sure none of this was as bad when the car and the car seat technology was more compatible. Hell I wish they made half of them in adult sizes, they'd make badass racing seats, lol
Now that's something you don't read/see every day. :burnout:
I hereby nominate you for "Gearhead Mom of the Year" award.
Well hey, when you're an unemployed certified aerospace welder you've gotta put your skills to use somehow right?
I did a bunch of research on it and laughed at how paranoid people are "It's not tested!" and "but it didn't come that way from the manufacturer!" but hell if you can latch a 5 point harness for racing to the things I think a car seat will be just fine...
For Jacob we used the rear facing with the base, just buckled int he base and put the seat in, it went in the center in the back... it was a PITA to do it, but it worked... It's so much easier now that he is over 1 and can use a regular front facing seat. I also prefer our truck when it comes to having him... much eaier to buckle him in and get him out, and he can see out the window so he keeps entertained....
Oh cool thing... he's such a gearhead! LOL He was checking out Hunter's t-bird yesterday, pointing at the engine and saying Uh Oh, as Roger was removing the battery.... then when the guys were done, he reached up (I was holding him) and grabbed the hood and pulled... I guess he knew it was time to put it down.
Canadian cars require those anchors, or at least provisions to mount them, be installed in every car, and I think they did require it back in the 80's too. You might find some threaded holes in your rear speaker shelf under the carpet, since I'd imagine Ford didn't make a special piece just for Canada...
Awesome, maybe I'll find some time to check it out this week. She's had a cold and been miserable but we both got some sleep last night (HOORAY!)
Karen, That's what I have now but between her being a good sized baby and me being small, it's just gotten to be a huge pain. I hate rushing her through stuff but man I can't wait till she can walk!
And she spends a couple days a week at the speed shop. We were gonna let her take the merc for a ride but she just stared at us:

Be careful what you wish for , Running comes real soon after walking and if you think you get tired now .....just wait :rollin:
I know what ya mean Crystal... Jake was a big baby too... lol there is a reason I call him Chunky Monkey.... he's still huge, but now that he's walking, he's thinning out some... and not only does he walk and try to run... he also climbs!

He really wanted to come home with us... I told him maybe this weekend...
It's the dogs I'll feel sorry for, lol. My mom's pugs are not used to that much exercise!
She weighed in at 18 lbs 7 oz today at her 6 month checkup. And while that's not bad that plus 10 lbs of seat and a couple toys and you're at 30 lbs in no time and well I weigh 95 soaking wet so it's rough, lol!
She can't wait to move. Her friends are 2.5 and 1 and both walking and it drives her CRAZY!
Looks like he has the minimal issue all blonde babies do, lol. If we ever have another cj they can hang out *hint hint* lol
picked up an evenflow tribute 5 for under $50 on amazon and it fits great! I'll switch to the other when she goes front facing since it is a much comfier looking seat. Figured i'd just throw the info out there in case anyone else needs the info.
I asked my wife about the front facing thing, My kid was tall enough at 6 months for one. He was about 3 weeks overdue, and taller then usual.
So this thread is the details of your fb post :D.
Now I may be a total you-know-what but I think I'd pretty much say "Uh I'm a certified aerospace welder. What are YOU certified in? Do you know what AEROSPACE means? No? Really? Why don't you go ahead and STFU?"
I get sick of people trying to tell a trained professional their job when they are entirely ignorant in that field.
LMAO, yeah it is
And I have the same mentality so don't feel bad I just usually pull the whole "yeah, I'm just some dumb stupid blonde girl that's a certified welder and works part time in a speed shop, but hey, what do I know" which usually gets me the look of death but hey, what do I care? lol
