Title: Frt plate Bracket
Post by: Dansbirds on September 01, 2010, 09:11:58 PM
Well it finally happened, I got stopped today for no frt plate, its on the dash just no bracket. Anyway after the officer inquired why it wasnt mounted, I told him I have no bracket(100% true) I didnt feel he needed to know I refuse to drill holes in a perfectly good hole free bumper cover. He told me get one and after I told him parts for 24 yr old cars are not all that plentifull he let me go with a warning. So this brings us to now, are there any options out there that dont require putting holes in the face of my cover. I am tempted to mount it below the car if I have to and just drag the heck out of it or I just might keep pressing my luck. What do you all think.

Good you got away with just a warning. I don't care for front plates as well, but I don't like hagling with vice either. I guess it's a pic your poisen .. have plates or live with the acceptability of the vice. Though not sure on the consequences if you get multiple warnings for the same offence.

A bracket that mounts under the bumper cover and comes up to the front wouldn't be hard to fab up.Take a little time to look at the nose of the car and see what you can come up with.I'd love to do it,but have no '86 Bird to use as a test mule.

Really strong 3m adhesive tape on the bracket instead of drilling holes

Yeah seriously I would buy one of those brackets or fab something that can be attached underneath the bumper. You might check into some that are made for late model Mustangs. They make them so that they flip down and hide away for show. They even make one that is motorized!

Its the 86 that doesnt have a bracket. I have seen the option like on the Mustang site, cant believe what they get for the remote one. On a side note bought the wife a new VW last month (In pa) and cant convince myself to drill holes in it either, of course she's convinced she'll get stopped for it, she has better luck with police than I do though which I am sure is relative to looks
