Does anyone know what the factory color of the rear axle an rear control arms was? I'm guessing it was all painted black but I need to know before I repaint them on my car.
Yes I know I'm cleaning/painting/detailing items no one can see unless they are under the car;)
Didn't know they were painted at all.
I believe they were black.
Back in the day, the assembly plant marked different optioned suspension pieces with different color paint marks so they knew what went where.
I'm guessing they were painted. I could be wrong though. If they were bare metal then I'll have to get some cast iron looking paint. I'm guessing they were black though. Well looking at irv's car it looks like the control arms were gray, the drums and backing plates were black, and the rear axle was bare cast iron?

That's how I remember them being when they came off the truck at the dealership I worked at :D
Yep in these parts they were bare metal until the dealer sprayed undercoating all over them.
My control arms were black, and the differential was.....it seems...natural.
The control arms were silver zinc chromate plated or galvanized, not painted.
the upper arms on mine were black. you can barely see the paint in the pic. I still have the lowers to see what color if any is still on them.
Not sure about the rest, unless rust is a color. lol

Any idea if they're is a paint that replicates that finish?
