Title: Paint for 87-88 rubber side moldings.
Post by: thunderjet302 on August 27, 2010, 10:37:57 PM
Does anyone know of a spray paint that replicates the glossy to semi-glossy look of the finish on the 87-88 rubber side moldings? All of the bumper and rub strip paint I have found is flat and not glossy. I just picked up some used but very good condition side moldings that I would like to refinish to bring them back to the level of glossiness that the ones that are on my T-bird have now.

These moldings are part of the gradual build up of parts in preparation for the repaint of my 88 in a year or two:D

did you try the rustoleum satin as a comparison? I've been using it everywhere on my car. has a nice look to it

SEM Trim Black. It's perfect.

Cool thanks:D!

One more question. I want to sand a few imperfections off of the molding here and there. I'm guessing I should use 1000 grit and higher paper so as to not leave and marks correct?

I used 500 on the entire car before paint. That should be fine. any higher grit scratch may cause a poor mechanical bond with the paint

I'll give 500 grit a try and see how it does. Thanks.
