Title: Garage stereo from hades
Post by: CoogarXR on August 23, 2010, 05:44:33 PM
Welp, I've been looking for a mean 'ol 80's stereo for my garage. I finally found one suitable on craigslist the other day!

2x Pioneer CS-903 and 2x CS-703 Speakers (thats 4x 15" Woofers total!). He threw in a pioneer EQ too. I had the Sony receiver already.

I haven't got it hooked up yet, but it's gonna make the neighbors hate me real quick :mullet:. I am a big 70's-80's hi-fi nut.

I plan on putting one in each corner of the garage, up on a shelf. But here's how they look lined up when I brought them home (pardon my messy garage in the background). I have the grilles, but they look so much meaner with them off:

I am jealous! That would be so sweet! I always have music playing when I'm working on my cars. I cannot wait to deck out my garage. I drool at what will be in it. I'm so tempted to build a shop and have a loft with living quarters, just so I could have the shop haha.

Hah!  One of those is about the size of BOTH of my garage speakers.  You win for loudest garage stereo.  Very awesome... you mind letting us know how much a setup like that costs?  Can't be too much I'd imagine.

Well, those speakers usually (for some reason) bring about $250-$300 per pair. I managed to score all four, plus the EQ for $100 (the eq alone is worth $90). I got the non-functional receiver for free from my job (I can probably fix it).

Here's a pair of those pioneers ebay, with no description:

They are up to $100 with $100 shipping so far.

The nice thing about vintage stereo gear is that if you look, you can find it for peanuts at yard sales, estate sales, etc. People don't know what they have usually. I found these on craigslist.

I started constructing the shelves in my garage to hold these hogs. I got two of them up on the shelves so far. Man, carrying these big pigs up the ladder and getting them on the shelf without banging them up is a lot of work, heh.

Once I get them all up, I'll take another pic. I hooked them up to an old JVC receiver I had for now. It's probably 30 watts per channel, even with that little bit of power I can make the garage door shake ;)
