FINALLY got out to an event today. been slow gettin the car ready, and with the TC day in july i didnt wanna push my luck too much before hand. today, the car was great! the driver was mediocre as usual :rollin: just when things were coming together, a couple junked runs in a row completely tossed my concentration.
1st run is always pretty slow. putting the course together in my head walking vs. driving. 58.xx seconds
2nd run was much better, mid 55.xx
3rd run was another improvement, 54.00x
4th run felt at least as fast as the 3rd until i got flagged. the guy runnin ahead of me put his car off course in the second section, out into the corn field.
on my re-run the back end came around in the first section and i killed three cones with the passenger door of the car:hick:
5th run was feeling decent, but after having two runs where i did not complete the back section, i got ahead of myself and missed the final box. coming out of the second to last obstacle, i hammered down and realized i was lined up on the wrong side of a pointer cone. locked up the brakes, crossed up the car, and put it.......out in the corn!! many curse words ensued.
6th run was clean, but my head just wasnt in it. 54.33x
these are raw times, my official times will show a 1sec handicap for street tires. i know the guy who finished 3rd in SM had an official time of 49.xx sec. i didnt listen to everyone elses times
ill post up the links to the official results when they are posted, and hopefully some pics if i can find them. i did see a few cameras floating around
overall the car felt great considering all the changes i have made since i was out last. i was very pleased with how the car performed when i was up to the task of driving it. lighter clutch and d/s really shined in transitions; smoother as well as more responsive. the new turbo and exhaust setup made power much smoother than the old IHI. i converted to a breather tank vs. PCV system, and it seems to be working flawlessly. was very nice not to have oil puked down the side of my motor or have the dipstick pop out.
next event is labor day. im already ready to go!
Great to hear you're able to do an event and the car is up to it!
vids fresh from youtube, this was our course today(obviously not my vids....)

watchin his vids after running the event in my car, its very interesting how different the throttle inputs are from his car to mine. his is an 86 civic Si running in street touring
also you can see our old surface compared to the new surface layed down this year. this was the first time i ran on the new surface, and it is incredible! on my first run, after the 90* corner and the two gates, i tried to drive over the FIRST cone in the slalom because the car actually turned in at the beginning of my steering input.
Cool, I imagine that it was quite fun
Sounds like a blast
, you should come out to an NWOR event sometime. Sept 26 is at chrysler machining in perrysburg(toledo) and its right off the ohio turnpike.
I love seriously fast courses like that one was. I would've been at 75-7600 rpm on some of those straights with my 3.55 gears still.
why? so you can show me how much faster you are with far less suspension work and a whole lot more tire? ;)

ok heres some stuff from labor day.
i was actually fastest in my class, but there were only three cars vs. the normal 6-7, and since the monday event was combined with sundays event as "super weekend," there were no individual trophies for mondays run.

ethan, you would have LOVED this course! it was very wide open thru the first section. i washiznittin the limiter in 2nd right before my braking zone into the first sweeping 90, and reaching for third coming thru the last set of element headed to the finish.
my buddie got some outside video of my runs, but im gonna hafta help him get them off his camera i guess, cause he hasnt emailed em to me yet....
lol. Good job!
I definately need to go to you sometime because it really doesnt look like there are that many fast cars down there. Theres no way for me to guage how fast it is because there are no corvettes at all on there. I usually beat almost all of the corvettes in the NWOR SCCA. If I go to a corvette club autox in lorain, I'm gauranteed to beat them all, rofl
yeah, the fastest stuff down here is generally a turbo solstice, and the subies. i do run with the smaller region too though, rather than the indy region. i get more seat time this way.
ok, finally got the vids from my buddie. this is the best quality one. all the rest were horribly out of focus

and a fresh pic of the car from that event

todays event started rainy, and of course i ended up in the first run group....weatherman kept sayin it would clear out and he was right; second run group had nice sunshine and dry pavement.
anyhow i finished second to an AWD car on a wet course. the other two in class were FWDs. runnin the tbird on a wet course was an interesting experience. taught me a couple things about smooth transitions and throttle control ;)
there was a guy in a vette at this event, who ran in the dry and spun out every run.
all i could think of while he was on course was this :rollin:

the course dried out a bit between each run in the morning. my 6th run was on almost completely dry pavement. it was my last run of the day, so i went all in as if it was a normal dry event. there was one damp spot right near the end of the course that got me crossed up just enough to get one freakin cone. that would have been a badass run otherwise....
sweetness.. makes me want to rush to finish my capri and go run at NJMP, since it's right down the street.. bad things happen when rushing though :(
I reclassed my car. I was gettin just fast enough for people to ask questions, and was kindly informed that I might not actually be legal to run SM. Not that anyone really cares in my region, but I prefer that I run where I belong so I went diggin thru the rules to find the correct class. Extremely long story short, I am running the car in BP now. I am away from the AWD subies, but now must contend with FF cobras.
I won BP today! Only one of the two regulars showed up, and we went back and forth all afternoon. I ended up gettin him by 0.2sec on my best run.
The course was nicely laid out. the front half was pretty fast, and the back half was very technical and challenging in a big car. I had to force myself to slow down in the back section each run. The run I didnt get myself calmed down enough I ended up over driving the car, behind the course, and crossed up near the end. My time showed it.
Thankfully my next run was my best run of the day, so I am gettin better about focusing my concentration and not over driving the car, causing overheated tires that ruin the remainder of the event.
Results when they are posted!

I'm going to have to try to get down there sometime next year. You should post up their dates for next year when they get them.
Good to see you winning your class. I'm moving to cp next year and I think even my current car would fit in that class.
When I was deciding where my car should go, I looked at CP first. My IRS swap isnt legal for CP, which means I'd get bumped to XP or EM. My car is underprep as a prepared car already, no need to move into a mod class :beatyoass: I also didnt wanna become a single car class as there isnt anyone runnin XP in my region.
I talked with the solo chair and a couple guys who currently run in BP to see if they would allow my car to run there based on the fact that the IRS'd mustang cobras belong in BP. Being a regional-only class, basically we can do whatever we want to with it anyhow. It was universally agreed that BP would be the best fit.
If I run in a region that doesnt have BP, I will run XP.
yeah, the irs in your car requires some very agressive classing, lol. Hence why I'm keeping the straight axle under mine. What region are you running with again?
