Title: Spout out question.
Post by: blu84302 on August 17, 2010, 04:00:24 AM
When running with the spout connector out does a MAS air EEC need to see an 02 signal or any emission components to run without ill effects?

My 02 harness was damaged badly and components of the EGR system arn't functional anymore.  So I plan on removing the 02 sensors and the damaged harness.  And blocking off the EGR and removing the smog system.  Then running the computer in spout out mode as a daily driver until I can find all the pieces to replace what is missing in my system. (I like the idea of better fuel mileage)  The car will still have cats in the mean time.  Any foreseeable issues with running spout out and cats?

Been searching this subject to long with many questions still racing through my head.  Any light on how this works would be great!

your car will run but not having a sprout doesnt really eleiminate functionality of the emissions equipment.

one purpose of the sprout connector is to bring the tfi and stator assembly into the game by having timing adance features.
both of these replaced the points / vac advance of earlier years.

wihtout a sprout conn is like plugging off your vac advance from earlier years, didnt hurt anything to do so but power and gas advantages are reduced.

Pull your o2's plugs out, and the car will go into "limp" mode. Pulling the spout out will stop the computer advance. If you do pull it out, advance the timing quite a bit to keep performance, but might make it hard to start. I would leave it in. It will still run fine like that. Personally, I would just go to the junkyard and get a new o2 harness. I believe that it would run fine with o2's unplugged. The stock strategy sometimes ignores the o2's all together.
