I've been trying to get my rear seat out of the car and I got one of the TORX bolts that holds it down out of the PS. But the one on the DS just WILL NOT come out.
I've tried a big ass breaker bar, all that wants to do is bend my TORX driver, which is a nice Kobalt one, not a cheapo.
I've also tried a small impact driver.
Everytime involved copious amounts of WD-40. Does anyone have any tips on how to get this SOB out?
I'm really really afraid of over torquing it and ruining the torx head on the bolt, and never getting it out.
Have someone heat it from underneath with a torch while you turn the Torx bit inside the car. Heat + bolt = free. Just watch the fuel lines...
Not sure which one your talking about. Sounds like its in the interior. I usually use heat (torch), breaker bar, impact, and grinder/cutoff wheel in that order. Heat it cherry hot, quench it with pb-blaster, repeat. But sounds like thats not an option.
Yeah, the one under the backseat that holds the back to the floor. Its definitely on the inside, but it can be reached from underneath.

Careful with the heat. I did mine and it started to melt the plastic on the seatbelts. although mine were probably the worst that anyone could ever come across in the rust dept.
I'll second the hot wrench. That's the only way I've been able to remove them.
Ok, well I went and bought a torch. Heated the thing up pretty hot. I didn't go too hot cause I didn't want to burn up my seatbelt assemblys, plus the floorpan was starting to catch fire underneath..... But, trust me, it was HOT.
Well, I torqued hard as I could with a breaker bar, but all I succedded in doing was bending my torx driver and the bolt head. Twice. once with a Kobalt, once with a Duralast.
I think I'm going to try a real impact wrench. Is there a TORX driver that can stand up to the abuse of a impact gun, or is there some other method I can try?(such as making it a hex head bolt:hick:)

Idk about that... I've never had a Craftsman that was any stronger than a Duralast...
I think its just the fact that the TORX design is the most flawed idea for a dirver/bolt combo I can think of. I mean really! What were they thinking??? ...Oh, yeah 6 wings are way stronger than an Hexagon shaped Allen or a traditional Hex socket!!! We're gonna make millions!!!! :flip: MFers
I guess I'll go get a craftsman and see if it blows up when I use the impact gun. And if it does, I'll blow up my warrantied kobalt and durlasts too.
And if they all blow up, Ima take a grinder to that sob and cut it into a hex shape, then I'm gonna waste about 10 drill bits drilling the shaft out of it, then I'm gonna heat it up to smelting point, then I'm gonna through the breaker bar on it and that SOFB is gonna come out.
....But that is, of course, the last resort. :hick:
I took a pair of snips and cut the strap. I was in a j/y and it felt like 150degrees in the car and I wanted the seat out. Now if you are trying to get the seatbelt out then all I can say is good luck. I broke a handfull of tools that day. That seat isnt going anywhere when everything is installed so I never worried about that strap.
A propane torch will never get it hot enough , you need an oxy/acetylene set up.
skip the torch before you burn your car up... get a sharp chisel and use it to turn the bolt out with the chisel and hammer. when reassembling use anti seize
I got my torx socket from napa ,and used it in my 1/2" impact gun. used a torch with MAPP gas while I impacted the piss out of it. wrap a wet rag around the plastic parts of the seatbelt. Once the undercoating is burned off the car underneath, everything should be ok. It's easier if you have help though.
