You've only got an 85mph speedo? :punchballs:
column shift indicator and no column shift :D
The Amp gauge seems to be the only one up?
That is awesome !!!! Are you going to post a "how to"?;)
The amp gauge actually works?!?!
Sorry, I had to...
;)
I see what you did...very cool. Just like the mid-80s GM G-bodies with a cable connector?
Space is very limited on an buttstuffog cluster. the only idiot light on the bottom left was the seatbelt light. If I don't know by now if I'm putting on a seat belt, then I need to get out from behind the wheel. lol... I took the selector from the digi cluster that I pulled out of the parts bird. did a bunch of cutting on the back of the vert's cluster and bam.... Gear selector for a car with a column shifter..... I'll be working on a longer cable next. I figure a guitar string in some tubing would work perfect for this simple mod. I'll post the inner workings of the whole thing after I get it all together.
BTW...the speedo, and the gas gauge is are all that work in the vert. I need to get the rest working, or connected or something. :hick:
That's way cool! I had thought about doing this with my Mustang dash swap. I have been saving the same style indicator to see if I could fabricate this swap. I am curious how you have the indicator cable attached and how it works properly with the floor shifter being that my Mark VII floor shifter seems to have more travel range and possibly not a small enough pivot range for the cable to travel just the right amount.
I knew I remember seeing that somewhere before. ;)
Also... I haven't tried using the stock cable. It might be long enough, but I doubt it will be.
Cool:D
That's Shweeeet !!!! Awesome work Jeddy. Just for that,I'm gonna fab up something tomorrow.....but what to fab?
Fab for sake of fab... LOL!
Well I was fabbing something for my 08 Mustang for a change. I was working on incorporating the familiar Explorer temp and compass display into my overhead lamp console. Last trip to the salvage yard I bought just the unit that fits inside of the Explorer console along with the green display lens. I cut a perfect rectangular hole for the display. My challenge was to remove the digital display from the circuit board and remotely locate it behind the rectangular hole in the front face of the roof console housing.
I did experience a setback. I cannot get the multiple jumper wires I created from the circuit board to solder and stick to the pins on the now remote digital display. I am trying to figure a solution. Looks like possibly small pin connectors will work like those used on disc drive connect cables.
Adapting the Explorer temp/compass display is much less expensive than buying a Gentex temp/compass mirror new or used. If this fabrication experiment fails then I guess I may get a mirror display at some point.
More pics of the project.
selector from the parts bird
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee79/daminc/85%20Vert/gear%20selector%20mod/IMG_0155.jpg)
I drilled out the plastic welds to set it free
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee79/daminc/85%20Vert/gear%20selector%20mod/IMG_0157.jpg)
then to find a place for the install. I would have liked it up here, but the trim covers it just above the speedo and tach
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee79/daminc/85%20Vert/gear%20selector%20mod/IMG_0158.jpg)
so this was my only option.
here's the back side of the selector
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee79/daminc/85%20Vert/gear%20selector%20mod/IMG_0175.jpg)
And of course the front side
(http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee79/daminc/85%20Vert/gear%20selector%20mod/IMG_0178.jpg)
I made a notch for the wire.... now to see if I have enough slack make it work. It's gonna be close

Have you tried it as is to see if the cable will reach?
I misread your earlier post where you said it was for a column shift.
I have a possible plan in place where I may be able to mount mine in the rear defroster switch location on the left side of my instrument cluster bezel. There is already a rectangular hole there for the switch. All I have to do is verify the cable cable travel ratio when I move my floor shifter. I will have to attach the cable as low as possible somewhere on the shifter to see it if it will work. I know that if I had used the Mustang floor shifter it would have a indicator plate but I used a Mark VII shifter which uses a cable all the way to the shift lever instead. It's not important if I cannot adapt it as this is not the first time I have covered up the shifter indicator so I can enjoy the looks of a full manual boot.
With the new double-din later model Mustang centerstack trimplate in place it relocates the rear defroster switch to the lower part of the centerstack plate. So that can free up the space on the instrument cluster trimplate.
If this idea does not pan out then I am going to consider using some of the unused spaces for idiot lights in the cluster housing which include low washer fluid, low oil, low coolant, ABS and Airbag. I will fabricate a contact plate with a brush that rides over the contacts when I move the shifter. The brush itself will provide a ground for each light depending on what position the shifter is in. That brush would be attached to the Mark VII pointer indicator that is still installed on the shifter unit. The contact plate will rest on the metal shifter support right under the pointer.
Done...... The stock cable works just fine.
here's a pic of it in gear. I got a video of it in action. I still have to upload it, and post it.

Looks awesome like it is supposed to be there!

Oh how well documented! I would have never believed you did this without the video proof. This thread would have been worthless without the video :rollin: ;)
...and "Come Sail Away" :punchballs:
Where do you find the time!!
LOL, Just showing that it actually lines up with the gears... It actually took me about 2 hrs to do..... and about 4 beers. ;)
And Styx is the only cd in the car. They're my vert cruisin tunes.
I am always in awe of your capabilities! Maybe I need to drink more beer! :rollin:
