Title: Offset Rack Bushings?
Post by: 88TCRezurect on October 30, 2004, 06:16:29 PM
Will the Offset Rack Bushings for the 87-93 mustangs work on an 88 Turbo Coupe rack?  A freind gave me a brand new set in the package, and am just looking to see if anyone knows whether they will fit before I start pulling stuff.  Thanks

They won't fit....I tried a buddies Ford Motorsport set on mine once and it was a no go. One of the power steering hard lines coming out of the rack interfered with the motor mount. You don't need them anyway.

No go huh, at least they were free.  My TC is dropped pretty significantly, and I am wondering about what to do to correct the steering feel.  Its pretty bad, specially after I put on the 16X8 rims with 245/50 tires.

How about the bump steer kits they got for fox mustangs, would something like that help to correct the steering feel?  I know I am gonna have to deal with the whole front end when the new motor is in.  Once I get the swap straightened out, my guess is by late spring, I want to re do the whole front end.

I am guessing that Maximum Motorsports Caster Camber plates would be a wise investment as well to get the adjustability I need to square everything back up.

Bump steer kit and caster/camber plates will definitely correct things. Also, consider Steeda X2 ball joints. With this combo of parts, offset rack bushings are unnecessary.

BTW, the 1986-88 K-member is designed for split rack bushings...pretty cool idea. When changing bushings you put one bushing piece on each peg sticking out of the K-member, then install the rack, then put the other piece in, and tighten down with the bolt. Very efficient design and much easier to install than the older 1-piece bushings, also used on Mustangs. It's about the only saving grace of that K-member (aside from ease of changing motor mounts).
