Title: AOD
Post by: 86caprirs on June 25, 2010, 07:24:51 PM
88 tbird, 351w swap, stock aod. I did the adjustment for the tv. Now the car does not go into first when stopped at a light. Allways start in second. First drive when I start after a long sit it will start in first but take alot of rpm before it gets out of gear. Then warm second gear starts and sloppy kickdowns to pass on hiway.

Is she done or?

Sticking shift valves or governor. May have trash in the fluid.

I had that with my old AOD.I pulled the valve body and one by one cleaned out all the valves in it in a surgically clean environment. After that,re-installed it,new filter and fluid with a bottle of Lucas, and it shifted perfectly. It worked for me,but that doesn't mean it is the same for your car though.Just a thought.

I have a bullet proof AOD.........problem is it cost ~$2400.

Did the AOD shift good before the engine swap? If so I bet your TV cable may not be set quite right.

It was fine before the swap. So i did the TV setup on the TCCOA site. I set it at the half way mark and it was shifting late. I then adjusted it to min and now it does not kickdown right. But in the morning it sticks in first till it gets warm then I lose first when warm and the car stalls stuck in second. When I a slowing to a light I feel it kicking up gears but it almost stalls the engine before it does. OD engauges arround 100+ km per hour. before it was like 70-80 km per hour.

What Ken said, likely a valve is sticking in the valve body or may be the governor...

If you're going to pull the valve body you might as well put a shift kit in or get a better performance oriented valve body.

Yes I am. To bad. I would take that but the shipping would be insane.

Change your tranny fluid, see if it gets better or worse.

I may do that. I have the BG trans machine at work to flush it out and that BG cleaner and sealer. Who knows, it may help.

Well I flushed it out but it only shifts softer now. I seem to be getting into first when I come to a stop but it still sticks in od when I am slowing down to a stop from freeway speeds.
