Title: 351 heads on 302
Post by: goinsa337 on June 17, 2010, 11:39:16 PM
I have an 88' cougar that has a 5.0 HO and I am taking the engine out and putting it in a 93' cougar and I was wondering if I put 351W heads on it what else will be REQUIRED for me to do in order for it to work correctly?

I already know that I need to get conversion head bolts.  But what about the cam and intake are those changes that are required?

The 93 already has an H.O. and e7te heads if that is what your getting at. You can buy bushings or what ever to step down from 1/2" to 7/16"s, but you really do not need them. Other then that, they should more or less just bolt on, unless your heads or intake or block have been milled down.

If the engine is an HO, then why are you putting the '94 heads on it?

The only difference is the 5.8 heads have the 1/2" holes, vs. the 7/16" as mentioned. Both sets are E7TE castings, identical.

Utter waste of time, unless the 5.0 heads are bad, or the '94 heads have been worked over, valve job, rebuilt, or what have you.

Truck 5.0 and 5.8 heads are the same as the 5.0 HO heads, the E7TE. The E7 heads are all the same no matter if they were on a 5.0 or 5.8. If you really want a decent stock head you should pick up a pair of GT40 or GT40P heads from a 5.0 Explorer.
