Title: Finally some good news
Post by: oldraven on June 17, 2010, 02:25:41 PM
After fourteen months of job searching (and applying, just to clear that up), I finally got my first interview last week, and I found out about an hour ago that I got the job.

It's going to be a strange job for me. I'm going to be a Delivery Driver/Catering Porter for the catering company that runs everything to do with eating at the University (St. Francis Xavier University (http://"http://www.stfx.ca/")) in Antigonish. Starting this tuesday, I'll be delivering dishes and cups and hot food. It's Union, but that probably won't ever come to anything for me, since I'll be going back to School in September anyway. Of course, they don't know that. I don't think it'll be a big deal, since during the interview he told me that the two month probation is just as much a matter of the employee trying on the job, as it is the company trying out the employee. He mentioned that they go through a few in a year, and I asked "Do you get that much turnover." He denied it, and I let it go at that.

Anyway, it couldn't have come at a better time, since my EI is up on the 19th. Talk about luck.

Thanks guys. I had my second day today. This place is crazy! I spend about 7 of my 8 hours walking and carrying crates. THIS IS GREAT! I've been sitting at a desk for ten years. I might even get rid of this gut before my friend's wedding at the end of July.

But the best news about this job is the dire need for a second vehicle. My T-bird will be on the road and daily driven within a week, with any luck. LIFE IS GOOD! It's on jacks in the front yard, getting prep'd for inspection (motor mounts, finally, lubing, getting everything moving freely, and inspecting for any damage from sitting for three years), and this Sunday I have the day off to do some body work on the DS quarter. I put my finger through it a few days ago, so it has to have some cancer removed behind the rear wheel.

Thanks again to Dan and Paula. The two most gracious people on the internet. ;)

Here's the quarter in March of '09.

Here it is three days ago.

And here's the culprit.

This car was rust free underneath when it moved to Nova Scotia. The PRC struts worked fine before, but I'm pretty sure they won't last very long, if they still do.

Oh, I had a complete understanding when you posted those. hahah. Socking, but well within the realm of possibility. I love and hate this place.

I've felt that pain before....I'm always afraid to look under my cars. the underside of my 05 Ranger looks almost like that....It only has 3200 miles on it

If anyone knows what to call that bar crossing behind the k-member, under the oil-pan, please share. It looks as if someone has bottomed the car out on a rock or three, and it's right up against the oil-pan, which is why it made a rattle every once in awhile in 5'th gear. The bad motor mounts didn't help either.

Anyway, you can see in the last picture how dented it is, and driven up. If anyone can tell me where to find one, or if someone has one laying around, I'd be interested in buying it.

Not sure what it's called...the Sport has one as well, but my 3.8 car didn't.

I dunno if I kept the one off of the TC I parted in '06...if I can find it, you can have it for shipping...I'll let ya know if I locate it :D

Congrats! I'm at 10 months and counting. Loving the time with the baby but at the same time regular adult contact would be amazing!

I hear you on the rust thing. My TC wasn't bad when I got it from wisconsin a few years back (probably  near 4 at this point) but now that I've really been poking at it I'm having second thoughts about it (the amount of work required to really sell it is more than I thought). Ranchero's been through the same ...

I've always wanted to check out Nova Scotia, but I think if I do I'll leave the bird here, lol.

The salt only eats cars here in the winter. If you don't drive a car here in the winter and only drive it in the summer it will never rust:D

That would be awesome, and I'm sure we can work something out so you can at least buy a case of beer from the deal. It must be some kind of sway bar.

Crystal, it's not so bad if you park your car when the snow flies, indoors. But if it sits outside, even the salt air and grass will destroy a car. I parked this on gravel, which is now part of the lawn.

Guess everybody is getting jobs, now. I even got an offer to drive part-time on the weekends for another trucking company. Rather than a 62 mph Volvo, like I'm in, now, I'd be moonlighting in a 78mph Volvo.

Right on! That's really good news. It looks like things really are getting better.

This is my second day off since I started, and it's flat out all day. Crazy job. I've lost six pounds, though. They feed you pretty well too.

I'm cutting up the T-bird for a temporary fix right now. I'll be able to weld a bigger piece in in the fall.

I have a question for all 302 guys. Are your motor mounts the same on either side? I was told that they would work, but the DS mount is completely different from the passenger side one. So now I have one mount in, but the DS one is still shot. I did get that bar straightened back up for a quick fix as well. It clears the pan by about an inch and a half. The pan is creased now, but I have another good one in the shop.

So I can't find any motor mounts for any kind of 2.3L Fox of any year, except for the SVO, an even rarer car with completely different mounts as well.
