Title: Good idea?
Post by: Whiteboy on June 14, 2010, 04:41:24 PM
Well I kinda want to have a daily driver that wouldnt be too much trouble to keep up while i have the H.O. in the bird, also, since there wont be a conversion, there will be an extra engine laying around... well why not combine these two thoughts with this idea.

I found this on craigslist,

http://springfield.craigslist.org/cto/1721491378.html (http://"http://springfield.craigslist.org/cto/1721491378.html")

How much trouble would it be to put the old 5.0 in this one and would the tranny hold it? I dont know much about the LX transmissions so i didnt know if they were the same AOD as the tbirds had or not?

this could be a cool little ride while the bird is being painted and stuff during the winter too.... plus, its light, with the regular standard 5.0... that would be enough for a daily driver for me lol.

I dont play video games at all soooo my opinion  is tainted

I think the tranny will hold up behind a SO v8 but I will have to check on whether it will bolt up

Trans-no workee behind 5.0, also no boltee behind 5.0.
Fuel lines-different between 2.3 and 5.0, junkyard only item
Motor mounts/brackets-also different.
Wiring harness-also different
My oldest son and I just did a 5.0 to 2.3T swap, so it's still fresh in my memory.

If you're having trouble getting your car's engine done,I wouldn't spend money on another car that takes a lot of work to change from a 4 to an 8. Get yours done and enjoy it. If you have the right car, games are just that.......games.

Swappin' a SO 5.0 to HO is a walk in the park vs swapping a vehicle from a 4cyl to a V8... The Stangs used the POS A4LD, tranny which is longer than a AOD so you'd also need a shorted driveshaft, and a crossmember that mounts farther foward(A4LD members are unique)... Then you'd need motor mounts, throttle cables, wiring harness, exhaust system, fuel lines etc, etc, etc...

Bad idea.:hick:

On a side note I'd love a 4 cylinder Stang as a DD if I could:

1. Find one that wasn't rusty
2. Find one at all;)

Haha yeah, i wouldn't get it if it's that much trouble, if it had a good 4 banger engine I'd just leave it be and DD it

4 bangers are cheap and plentiful here. If you want a good daily driver, you might want to look into 86-91 crown vics with a 302. They can be had cheap, and are almost identical engine wise to our beloved cars.

For the cost of buying another car you could accomplish a lot on yours.

Yep but when I'm done my next big plans are putting it in the garage all winter for some body work on that 1/4 and all the hail damage, so I wouldn't mind having a beater around for an extra ride.
