Title: cougars first trip to the track!
Post by: TrickFlow347 on June 13, 2010, 12:27:51 PM
finally got the car to the track yesterday!  It wasnt legal to run faster than 12.50 so they made us run 1/8 mile.      It was 84 outside and started raining shortly after we got to the track, but it dried up enough for us to get a few runs in. The track wasnt hooking very well and our rear springs are to tall/stiff so the car was unloading, just couldnt get a good launch.

So we ran 1/8 mile passes, our best 60ft of the day was 1.72 and should be alot better.  our best 1/8 mile of the day was 7.440 and letting the car coast thru the 1/4 mile it ran a 12.208@84mph they didnt say anything so for our last pass of the day we decide to go the full 1/4 mile and ran a 11.44@121mph. We were pretty happy with it considering the weather and track conditions. I think with new rear springs and a dry track it could be alot better!

its a 347 with a Ford Racing BOSS block and we were spraying a 100 shot. I have plans to run a stand alone fuel system for the NOS and eventually run it with a 300 shot.

Give us full specs for the car. 121 mph is pretty quick. Ever think about going to a carb style intake with a elbow?

We did look at them but went with the box style and now have the NOS plate to match the intake so I dont have any plans on changing it now.

5.8 fastcat: Someone needs to update that 1/4 mile time list I see you have improved since then!

Well like I said its a 347ci, forged internals 10.5:1 compression, RHS heads, TFS R box intake, TFS stage 2 cam, 42lb injectors, AOD trans, 2500 stall.  You can look up specs on heads and cam if you want;)  I have adjustable front and rear shocks, Moroso drag springs in the front but stock springs in the rear,,,at the moment.

Our tuner wanted us to go with a bigger cam but for now Im happy with the drivability of the car I dont think its holding us back. It only DYNOed 328rwhp motor only no NOS but he did it in drive and it shifted into OD. Im putting in new springs tonight and ordering some stuff to make it legal for the track and hopefully will get back this saturday again and see what it will do with new springs and a dry track!

Ill have in in the 10s this summer.:D

Nice times:D

How did you get the March Ram Air set up to work? I could never get that  scoop around the air  on the bumper so I just ran the hose to one of the cut outs in the bumper. It used to pick up leaves and  like crazy so i ditched it and went back to the stock airbox.

Thats great man! Thats a cougar with its ears down and claws out! Isnt that intake manifold your running a forced air style intake though? Doesnt an intake manifold with no or short runners loose low end torque? One more question, why wasnt your car allowed to go faster then 12.5?

The ram air fit right up on the cougar,,Im still not sure if I want to keep the ram air tube on I might just use the box for fender air,, Ive pulled a water bottle out of my air box!  the car doesnt get out on the road to much so its still there for now.

Yes, when we orderd it the car was going to be turbo but plans have changed since then, It also has a 90mm acufab throttle body.  TFS sells the upper R runner intake separate from the lower so once we get to see what it will do with this set up I might want to try the runner style if Im not happy with it. It made 365rwtq as is and it feels pretty good.

It wasnt legal because they wanted us to have a driveshaft saftey loop and a fire jacket. stupid stuff.

Got the new (FRP) springs in it last night,, set up the air bags and adjusted the tire pressure. It sits about an 1.5" lower in the rear now,, it pretty level but still has a little rake to it.

If this doesnt work I was thinking about ordering the MOROSO drag springs for it,,,anyone using them??? Id like to know how they make the car sit and work.

I was thinking about putting mine back on next time I go to the track to see if it makes a difference. I've managed to suck up empty smashed beer cans when I had the scoop on the car:hick:

definatly excited to go again. I played the video back about 100 times,,,the rear of the car bounces, I had brand new tires on the car and you could still see nipple marks on the edges, the contact patch was only like 6.5". So Im thinking the car has a better run in it.

My stand alone fuel system will be here in a week, then I just have to fit it up and order a fuel line the right length for it. I might get that 300 shot to it by july...

Play with the tire pressure in BOTH directions.......My M&H's on the rims they are on give a better patch at 25 PSI then they do at 20.

You need to upload a video on the computer and then put the link in the thread so we all can see it like I did !

I put the tire pressure @ 13 cold it goes up to 15 hot,, that seems to be working. I did a NOS pass on the street and left some black marks then went back to measure the tread and it was over 9"(full tread). Before it was loosing traction so bad it didnt even leave any black marks.

Went to the track yesterday, unfortunatly, I had no NOS so it was all motor passes, dissapointing. BUT,,,on motor I got a 1.713 60ft wich beats my best NOS 60ft from last week a 1.723 a very small victory..

Oh well, tomorrow is the first day of summer so I have plenty of time  to beat up on my car. Ill post video when its worth the time to upload!

Come on, what did you run? Anything under 15 seconds is okay here.

lol! I tow with a 14.0 truck!:D  It still ran a 12.4 1/4 mile @ 108mph. Without nos 3rd gear on the AOD drops off bad. Man it feels like a terd after running 11s:mad:. I still have a 3.73 gear, Im thinking about putting in a 4.10

I would do some math and figure out where you would tack out in 3rd, and gear accordingly. Looking at how you tow the car, I'm guessing it does not get alot of freeway? Whats your redline, and how much beef does the tranny have to handle it?

I have to tow the car to the track, the closest track to me is an hour away. Its set to shift @ 6000 but it shifts into 3rd around 3000, what I really need to do is manualy shift,, I need a manual valve body,  I dont have time to shuffle.  I have all the stock gauges in the car still cuz I wanted to keep it clean but the digital tack just tops out and flashes off.
My trans has a truck gear ratio(before it would tack out 3rd gear before the 1/4 mile), 4r70w internals, B&Ms best rebuild kit, and a non locking converter.

I have heard that stock tachs are not very accurate. I think you need some type of tach. The stock digi tach I know is way off. I need to go to a track one of these days. Just to see what my car with run stockish.
