Cam,

I've found them in stock at local autoparts stores for $45-$50.  The motors are used in a number of different Fords.  Best bet is to call around, then pull it and take it in to make sure they give the correct side (they gave me the one for the left door when I asked the right side...).  They had both on hand.

Hope that helps.

Been a year since we met at last years Power Tour!

Mark.

Too bad 87/88 window motors don't work in 86's because we've got about a dozen of those. Oh well.

By the way, I don't know about the older ones, but on 87/88 TC window motors the left hand motor has "RH" stamped on it and the right hand motor has "LH" stamped on it.

I did not know the window motors were different from 86-88.

I used 87 motors in my 85 doors.... Use the left side on the right and right on the left. Only 2 bolts will line up. But in a last effort fix. It will work.

Is there a size/weight difference between the year change?

basically they're made up side down compared to the 87 88 motors. and the bolt holes are close enough to only use 2 bolts instead of 3.
I'll see if I can snap a pic of the 2 to show

window motor from my 85 on the left and my 87 on the right. Both motors are for the drivers side door, but you can see that they're totally opposite of each other. This is why you need to use the 87 passenger side motor in the drivers door of an 85 (for sure) or 86 I assume

here you can see that the 2 bolts  line up but the 3rd is about 1/2" off. the bolt is clearly past the motor on the bottom

After more then a year..... I have had no problems using the 87 motor in the 85 with only 2 bolts.... so far.
The only thing to add on doing this, is to use your existing connector, because I think they're either different, or the wires were to short and had to be lengthened. I can't remember why I had to cut the connector off the old motor in from the 85. But I did to change it

Thanks everyone for the input. I tried an auto parts store locally and it was $150 Canadian! So I like the american prices better. I will stop by some place the next time I am in Detroit.

Mark, I realize it has been a year since powertour and I was really disapointed when I learned it was not coming anywhere close to detroit this year. I think the tour is actually going on right now! Hope all is well, take care.

The motor quit/burned out. I have the motor out of the car. I had previously replaced the plastic bushings and gear and was just hoping that it was something simple like that, but its not.

Dont know if this will help in your case but I had the same issue with one in my sons 83 and also my 86. I took the motor out and took it apart(carefull so you see what you are doing) cleaned up the contacts, re-assembled and they have been fine since, my 86 for almost a year now and my kids going on 3, knock on wood. My guess and its only a guess since it was both pass sides I fixed was that moisture gets in and corroded the brushes and the base of the motor due to less use. I have since fixed a box of extra motors I have for my 65 and all but one were a success. I was going to buy a motor but since it wasnt in stock and I didnt want to wait I figured couldnt break it any worse than it already was. Good luck

would the motor from the left side work on the right side if you switched it out of the left side motor case and put it in the right side motor case? ohh i think i said left and right toomany times LOL , anyway you know what i mean. if it does camertibird i have some extra motors that would work for you .

I had the same problem on my 84 Cougar and with a few questions to my ford parts guy, I came up with a plentiful solution. The drivers door motor is exactly the same # as the right REAR door in a 84-85 towncar. The pass door motor (cougar) is identical to the LEFT rear door in the towncar. I can verify this as I have a 84 towncar parts car and the #s are exact and the parts interchange.  :D

Hi

If you are still looking for a motor, pm me. I am going to be switching doors on my car in a few days and should have a good pass motor.

Thanks

Have you checked the yard for a similar year Crown Victoria? Same motors than the Cats & 'birds, sir.
