Ive got a 89' Cougar LS and my mom has an 92' T-bird both are runnin the same stock 3.8L Esshag. Why does mine not have an IAT but the T-bird does?
I also am wondering if i put platnium or iridium plugs with the stock gap settings would cause a high idle?

Do you mean the MAF (mass airflow sensor)? 89 T-Birds and Cougars did not use the MAF system, they used speed density (just like 86-88 T-birds, Cougars and Mustangs). 91+ Thundercats had the mass air system.

Also, aftermarket plugs would not cause a high idle. There are about a million things that could, but plugs isn't one of them. Your best bet is to pull codes.
