are they the same as 83-86?  I am close enough to come get it.

It will bolt on but there is a body crease along the side of the 83-86's that the 87-88's don't have.

could I use it for practicing flaring the fenders for a future project?

Sure, if you want! Actually if you want pieces to practice on I also have a 85 fender that is rough, you can have both.
