Post by: cougar1car on May 25, 2010, 10:44:31 PM
I searched and found a few ifs.. but am looking for some advice. 88 cougar with the 3.8 is having a stalling problem pulled codes and only got code 11. car cold seems to start fine idles a bit high for a 30 secs or less then evens out. After running car to work about 30 minute 20 mile ride once cars put in park or neutral it stalls??  Start it back up it seems to run a bit rough but again once put in park or neutral it stalls. I have checked vac lines and dont seem to be having a problem... Any ideas?!?!?!

when did you do a tuneup last? Also did you change the fuel filter when you did the tune up? And check fuel pressure to see whats going on when it starts to stall out.

with a hot motor...................

quickly remove the belt
spin smog pump pully by hand to see if it still spins super easy.

if not,, its an rpm issue where the smog is binding up.
do the same test on alt, pwr steering/ AC
