Took about a month and a half but they finally came !!
Sweet! Do they have any restrictions like the historical tags?
I think it's pretty much the same. I had to verify that I had another primary vehicle.
Nice choice!!
Congrats on the tags but ohio does limit ur driving them to and from car shows and parades. Thats what the ladys told me BMV so thats y i passed on them i love driving my car too much.
Most of the Mustang guys in my area have collector plates regardless of the year. I think it's because they have modified their cars so much that it wouldn't pass emissions testing. The cut off for emissions testing is 1986 this year. ;)
same here. I looked them up on ky DMV page recently. Mines a dd so those plates will never get to be on mine. :)
In Connecticut, as long as the car is 25 years old, no more emissions and you can apply for "Early American" plates. You choose what's on the plate, no mileage requirements and no need to own more than one car. Of course, you don't get anything special in return. You still pay the regular price for renewal.
I'd congratulate you, but after you've paid ~$100/year for a few years to renew those plates, you might be thinking a different way. I sure did. ;)
Next fall I'm getting Ohio historic plates (25 years!) for the '86, which does limit usage of the car, but it's no big deal since I'm driving it to and from shows anyway.
Minnesota does the same type of thing. If you get personalized plates on a newer car, it costs a fortune every year to renew. But if your car is only 20 years old, you can get Collector plates for a one time fee of $20. We even run "Year of Manufacture" plates on a couple of our cars and that costs a one time fee of only $5. The usage is supposed to be limited, but I have never heard of anyone getting pulled over for "abusing their license plate privileges". We don't even run front plates on our "cool" cars and have never had any problems. Basically, if you're not doing something stupid, the cops don't hassle you. At least, that's been my experience.
Sorry for the thread hi-jack. Again though, cool plates!!
Understood. I didn't see you were in Akron...we don't have E-Check in Mahoning County so the collector's plates for me would be out of desire, not necessity. And right now I don't desire to give the state of Ohio any more money than absolutely necessary. ;)
Regular plates here: $48.00/year. I have 2 cars.
BUT there's now a $20/car "penalty" because the registration lapsed more than 2 weeks past my birthday. Nevermind that the cars weren't on the road for 6 months. That doesn't matter to the state. So I get the "privilege" of paying $136 for plates for 2 cars for 6 months, instead of the normal $96.
That is, until this November. Then it's classic plates for the '86 (one time pay = F you and your fees, state of Ohio). Maybe for the '84 also. Then all I'd need to pay for yearly is the daily driver.
Supposedly there's legislation presented to the State congress that would not penalize people in Ohio that store vehicles for half the year with the above plate fees. Little too late for me but hopefully it will help others in the future.
It's $100 a year in Illinois to renew regular plates :shakehead
I still have 3 more years till I can get AV plates for the 88.
:punchballs: WOW ! That sucks ! How much are vanity or specialty plates ??? And do you have emissions on top of that ? We used to pay $20 extra for emissions every other year. But they found a way to get money from everyone even the ones who didn't have to E-Check. They raised everyone's plates by 20 some dollars and now E-Check is "free". :hick:
Vanity plates have a $125 a year re-newal fee:punchballs:
Any car from 1995 down is not tested for emissions. My 88 is in no way emissions compliant and I won't get in trouble for it;)
Eric,
I know what you mean on that $20 fee they hit me with it my truck sat till 3 months before my b-day. Ohio still felt they needed it more then me :punchballs: And no e-test here in Pike county either i guess Arkon gets it cause there so close to that state up north lol.
Granted my Jaguar isn't exactly a newer car anymore (it's a 2000) I paid a one time $100 and then the cost to renew was the same as regular plates ($38 for new tabs)

VA's vanity plates add just $10 additional to the purchase/renewal, which is $38.50(can save a buck if you renew by I-net)... Wife has one on her car but I've let the one I had lapse, don't even want one since I now have a std issue plate sporting 7777 in addition to the alpha characters...
I have year of manufacture on the '69 Fairlane, one time $6 registration fee... :D Supposedly it limits you to a 250mi limit from home but I don't know of anyone who gotten a ticket... VA does require the antique vehicles appear near stock, riding around with open headers and 12" meats on the back will get you a ticket and loss of your classic registration...
About a $100 per year for plates for my '88 Bird, but we don't have emission testing here in Michigan :)
