Title: 88 tc
Post by: thewestie on May 20, 2010, 08:53:43 PM
HI I'm trying to swap a 351W in a 88 turbo coupe the thing worrying me is the cradle and motor mounts:confused:. Do i need to swap cradles to the v8-v6 I have one from a 88 cougar. Can I use a different  cradle from a mustang and use mustang motor mounts?  Do they make drop mounts for thunderbird or cougars I'm trying to keep the stock hood?

Thanks westie

The K members are the same for all '86 through '88 Tbird/Cougars.

Just the engine mounts changed to accommodate the different engines.

Mustang k members will fit, with a bit of fine tuning...but, ChuckW makes custom mounts, there's no point in swapping a k member...look in the vendor section for his post if you're interested.

I have a set, they ARE the cat's ass. :D

also you could shim the k member to give you more hood clearance. Some of the guys here who did the swap did this. Do a search on 351w swap and you should come up with alot of usable info.

Ummm.... :punchballs:

Option 1: find a set of (rare) '86-'88 Tbird/Cougar V8 engine mount brackets, and keep your k member
(good)

Option 2: email chuckw and order a set of his type 6 mounts, and bypass the rare brackets altogether, and keep your k member (best)
Chuck's mounts. (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=12926") here, I made it easy for ya ;)

Option 3: swap in a stang k, and still have shiznitty choices for mounts, unless you want to pay big bucks (more than Chuck's, I'd bet) and go through a lot of work, realignment, etc...
(shiznitty, last resort as an option, IMO)
