Title: Either i'm blind or dumb.. o2 plugs!!???
Post by: Cougarcruisin on April 28, 2005, 10:20:32 PM
Well ok tonight its finally above 40 degrees, so decided to do some work under the car.

Went to Sears and bought a 3 ton suv/truck lift so I could get the car up high enough to get some jack stands under all for corners...

Anyways... hooked up the smog tube to complete that. Then came the o2 sensor extending time.

Well I can't find for the life of me find the 2 plugs that come from the engine compartment. I have both plugs from the h pipe but I couldn't find the other ends to plug into so I could measure to find how much extra wire I need. Then I called my father out to see if he could find anything too, and he couldn't find anything either. When I was helping my friend with the manifolds I remember they having a plug end on them. But they connected to the other end that i can't find.

Anyone know where I should be looking. I'm so lost and confused that I can't find a simple 2 wires.

Are you trying to find where the sensor harness connects to the main harness to unplug the old sensors? They should be around the back center of the motor. Mine have a fabric type sleeve over the wires so I don't see anything other than the connector. Hope this helps some. Sorry no picture.

Driver's side, in the 1/4" gap between the valve cover and the firewall.

Passenger side, same place, likely hiding behind the transmission fill pipe.

Make them 2-3 feet longer, so you have lots of slack to keep them away from header heat (not too many places to hide them), and solder the splices.

I originally lengthened my O2 wires to reach the original plugs, but when the sensors started to go, I grabbed the "Y"-shaped mini-harness from a wrecking yard Mustang, cut the sockets off, and used those and the plugs from the original sensors to make two "extension cords", so if I ever have to change the sensors again, it's a 2-minute plug-in job.

Bosch also sell O2 senors with a 16" wire instead of an 8". I picked those up for mine when I had them replaced. I'll try and dig up the part number.

There are also O2 extender harnesses available (I know Summit has them). Or you could bolt in a Mustang O2 sensor harness. Or you could get the aforementioned longer O2 sensors. Lots of options...personally I am for not cutting wiring unless absolutely necessary, but that is something you could do if you're in a pinch.

Found 'em. The stock 8.5" is Bosch part# 13942, The longer 16.5" is Bosch part# 13953.

If you do the works right, i dont see why you shouldnt cut the wires.....  :bs:

Twist em over each other, Weld and use Shrinking electrical tube (if its called like that in english)... But for the love of god, DO NOT use Electrical Tape....  :deal:  :deal:

Do it like that.....
