Title: My '86 Turbocoupe
Post by: fluke on May 14, 2010, 06:43:58 PM
Looks like I've never posted here even though I signed up a while back. I kinda forgot about. Anyway, thought I'd share some pics of my Thunderbird. It was my first car when I turned 16. Was actually looking for a truck at the time and happened along the Thunderbird by accident when it really came to me when a friend of my fathers was by and then said it was for sale. Was bone stock when I got it and needed some work but we fixed it up a bit and I have had it ever since. I've had other cars too, a '94 Integra, an '02 WS6, and now my truck too but I've always held on to my favourite car of the bunch.

Here is how she looks these days:

(old pic, I still have those wheels too. I didn't and am not getting rid of them)

(another old pic but I like the setting in it)

And well, my truck, though I doubt anyone cares about it here, lol.

Nice!  Good color (lol).  Not sure about the luggage rack, though.

Good photography as well.

Thanks. I actually have the set that came on mine originally (stopped working one winter after putting her in a ditch on some ice). I put those on after the accident and left the others in the garage. The ones I have on it now are actually a lot brighter than the originals. :)

Thanks :) Yeah.. I learned to drive in this thing. Can't ever forget those memories. I hope to make many more. :) My dream with this car is to have it fully "finished" in whatever configuration I decide to get it in one day, and then come back to get it and drive it cross country to where I am moving in a few years (somewhere out west or west coast). The thought of cruising Rt. 66 (or what is left of it), checking out the sights along the way, and then seeing the sun set on the desert while driving in to it in my favourite car just sends chills up my spine. :D

Thanks, man. :) I hope that one day she'll be in shape enough to make that kind of trip. My father thinks I'm insane wanting to modify my Thunderbird further. He thinks its fast enough but its not fast enough for me yet. I want it at least faster than my WS6 was (I know that is asking a bit much of her but I gotta find a way).

Hi fluke

Route 66 is probably my favorite trip. I never stayed true to the course because of time but true enough to take in some of the fun. I hear that the organized trips are a blast for roadies. For me the mid to western part of the trip is the coolest. Something about seeing a classic car in the desert or in Cali is way cool.

OK, I'm going to disagree with everyone else and say keep the luggage rack.  It's unique and I think it looks good with all the other black stuff on your car.

Nice ride.I don't think the luggage rack is that bad.

Thanks guys, she is looking a bit different (and better) right now since I've been working on freshening her up a bit ( over here in this thread (http://"http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=28224") ). I took off the rack a few days ago and took a quick look at the trunk lid before putting the pieces back on. More work than I want to deal with at the moment (didn't want to be painting any white above the belt line on her since I can't match the white exactly with any store bought paint due to a previous owners custom white paint job on it). I plan making the rack look more presentable and leaving it until I have the white painted some time.

Was thinking about it too. Don't think I've ever seen another white TC with the rack. Probably aren't too many like that; I'd be curious to know. Any one have a list of the colours and option combinations with build numbers?

mine had a luggage rack on it when i bought it(white 87 TC).

lid was beginning to rot at the edge and the luggage rack was loose with bolts stripped out. i lucked into finding another white lid to replace it.

Cool! So at last I get to see one, and on a white car too! I've seen the pics of your car with the new wheels and turbo stuff just earlier and was thinking how nice it looked without the rack on the back. :) Also makes me wanna lower my car (though I know I'll have clearance issues with my current wheel and tire combo so it stops me) someday. You have a very, very nice looking car man!

lol I just realized that made it sound like I don't like my car. I love my baby! Just to clarify, I want her to have a fresher engine (rebuild or new), upgrades, and be faster is all. :D I think some minor things I've been taking care of lately is a nice start.
