Title: White plastic beaded rod in shifter handle aka gerbil balls
Post by: Loaded87IROC on May 07, 2010, 06:09:40 PM
I put my car into gear earlier to take the shifter trim plate off. When I tried to shift it back into park the shifter would not move. I pulled the white plastic rod out and found it broken. Is there any replacement available for this piece or any way to rig something up to work? Thanks!

Shifter is from an 86 XR7 with a C3 trans.  I am going to look around in the salvage yards maybe tomorrow for one, but go ahead and PM me a price.  I am pretty broke right now so it may just have to wait a while.

I fixed one already with a small plastic bead. I ground it where it broke and added the bead. The bead came from like kids jewelry, like a beaded necklace.

Thanks guys.  I did see on another message board where someone used a ball bearing to fill the gap also.  I will see if i can find a replacement part today.

I got a replacement from the salvage yard.  I also checked out the rod in a fox Mustang but it was too short.  It would be nice if there was a place to get these new because after 20+ years they are all bound to be somewhat brittle.
