Title: Few suspension ?'s
Post by: 20thanniver-ls on April 26, 2010, 06:42:19 PM
In my '94 bird, I have a pretty bad vibration in the fron end at higher speeds and it has a bad pull all the time. It's been this way for a while now, and it is getting worse.

I have recently had an alignment done (which didn't help at all) and the front struts/rear shocks replaced, the front sway bar end links, had the tires re-balanced, and I had the ball joints checked out. I'm not sure what else would cause these problems. Control arm bushings maybe? I don't know enough about them to be sure. Any body have any suggestions on what I should check?

Brake rotors...bearings. anything at all rotational should be looked at.

Pulled both wheels off today. My ball joints had no free play in them whatsoever. I wasn't missing any bushings, nor did any look worn. I did notice that where the tie rod ends go into the lower control arm , I could move them front to back, and it would pivot somewhat on the control arm. Is that normal? I'm not sure what else could be the problem. Maybe an out of balance driveshaft? I am getting new tires this weekend, a lot of people are telling me that it could be because of bad tires, so we will see then.

swap wheels from front to back. I had a bent rim that drove me nuts for years with multipul sets of tires. One day I had a tire go flat, put on the mini spare, and rode like a dream. I would suggest replacing the wheel bearings if anything even stick out about them.

How many miles are on the car?  I replaced both front hubs at close to 120K due to a driver's side bearing failure. I replaced both to make sure I did not have the same problem later on. The car had more of a weird pull and some vibration but more of a pull than anything.

I'm not sure exactly how many miles are on the car, the odometer has been stuck at 113,xxx since I bought it in Feb. 2009. From the looks of the rest of the suspension, it seemed to be pretty well taken care of. But new hubs/bearings probably wouldn't be a bad idea anyway. It also makes a clunk when I hit a pothole ( of course, I try to avoid them), which was leading me to beleive it was something in the suspension.
