Title: Good Price?
Post by: Whiteboy on April 18, 2010, 02:38:19 PM
Ok so before i drop the engine a must is a good cam... My friend with a 88 stang has his Mass Air conversion and it worked really well, couple years later and it is still working great with these huge cams he has. so my main question is does this kit have everything needed and is there anywhere else i could get it a little cheaper? How much did you guys pay for your conversions? 650 dollars is alot of money and would delay my engine being put in for another couple months probably... i dont like the sound of that. is there any cheaper way....

Here is where i found the kit and stuff.

That price is rediculous. You can convert with junkyard parts for way cheaper. The EEC will be the most expensive part.

if I were you I would do the HO swap , get the car running good  and drive it for a while  THEN think about cam upgrades and mass air conversions
but that is just me :D

What Darryl said.

The MAF conversion on the cheap is easy to do if you aren't afraid of a little wiring work  (and no you can't use crimp connectors and expect em to last)

You can gather parts as money allows, and do it later on.

Just throwing the mass air on a stock HO will actually be detrimental as you'll lose some off-idle response, etc.

I've got a big-assed cam, and some, but not all of what I need to do the conversion. I still need an A9L eec...which, if you have a T5, would be the best one to get. ;)

EEC - A9L $50 from Corral.net
MAF Pigtail - Free (pocket) from junkyard
EEC Pins and 50" of wire - Free (Pocket) from Junkyard
MAF - 3.8L Taurus $55 from JY.
Injectors - Came with my shortblock, but you should be able to get some from a JY or a mustang friend.

FYI, 88s with the full electronic cluster already have the VSS signal attached to the ECU.

I cut off about 6 inches of the stock air hose.  I ditched one of the rubber bushings from the airbox, and stuffed the maf in between.  Works great, even with my TFS1 cam.  Idles like a bus.

So because my car has the digital dash and stuff, I don't need a vss signal? What us that anyway?
