This may need to be moved to "General Discussion". I'll let the mods make that call.
I'm wondering, how much horsepower do you think the new engine will make ,and how fast do you think the Sport could make it through the 1/4?
Engine...GT40-P
-ported heads, nice valve job,Trick Flow springs
-BBK 1 5/8 unequal length shorties (through a 2 1/2 inch X-Pipe and 40 series Flowmasters).
-Explorer intake
-Trick Flow Stage 1 cam
-1.7 roller rockers
I still have to "build" the Taylor plug wires.I got them because I've never heard anything but good things about them, they have 90 degree plug boots (for the "P" heads),and I can custom fit them to the engine.
T-5 tranny,King Cobra clutch through an aluminum driveshaft and 3.55 gears for now (may swap the 3.73 rear back in.....undecided right now). The CHE's will help a little to keep the rear planted.
I need to have the Sport weighed again.I may do that after work tomorrow.
Let me know how you make out, that's pretty much exactly what I'm hoping to do to the Bird next winter...
First time to the track? Sticky tires?
Street tires will really limit your ability to launch. Sixty foots in the 2.2-2.4 range would be common.
If you have limited experience at the with car at the track, it's a learning curve. Don't expect much better than mid 14's the first few times down the track.
You will improve and learn a lot, but traction will likely confine you to high 13's.
The measure of power is MPH. I suspect your MPH to be a range of 101-104. It will depend on how stable the valve train is. The upper intake will keep peak power at 5,400-5,500, this puts shift points at around 6,000. W/Trick Flow springs and 1.7's you may float under 5,500.
If your MPH is in the 104 range and you had good hooking chassis, that's good for 12.70-12.80's. Figure for every .1 on the sixty foot translates to .2 in the quarter (lots of other factors, but a general rule of thumb).
If you have a MSD 6AL put in a chip of 6,300, they usually start dropping cylinders at least 200 RPM prior to the number on the chip.
Have fun and good luck!
They're the upgraded dual springs from my TFS-TW heads. Not the plain jane E-7 type upgrades.....
These are what I sold him:

I ran them to 6200 consistently with that very cam without issue, however I ran 1.6 ratio rockers.
Once I find another turbine or 10 hole wheel,I have access to a set of slicks for cheap. I've been to the track a few times with the other Bird I had prior to this one.Same engine though but through an AOD,this time,it'll be a whole different drivetrain. Everything from the rear to the engine will be different.I'm hoping that the Sport can make decent numbers. We'll see in a month or so.
Three pedal cars take some getting used to at the strip. Burn outs without a line lock can be tough, trying to heel toe the gas and brake and popping the clutch. Launching has it's own learning curve and missed gears can be pretty humbling (it's amazing, I never miss a gear on the street).
It's still fun, just takes more practice. An automatic is so easy at the strip! Just kinda boring on a day to day basis.
There are loads of little tricks which can be done to get the most out the car, but you have start somewhere.
Hope you have a great time! It can become addictive...
The Sport is my daily driver, and is primarily used for going to work, picking up my boy from school and running around town.Once I'm able to go to the track,I probably won't get the Sport on the track but a couple of times each year.I just want to get an idea of what she can do.It's not meant to be a track car.
I'd like to know how that works with GT40p's having offset retainers on the exhaust valves. I know the TFS-2500200 springs wouldnt work at all on my GT40's. That's why I had to use the TFS "upgrade" springs.
Vinnie, do you know what the install height was with those springs? Open/Closed seat pressure? Stock retainers used?
Vinnie, I understand your vehicle is not a track car, nor is my Thunderbird.
The only way you'll know what it will do is to run it. I'm sure you'll figure it out.
Good luck.
Mine with a smaller cam has run 95 mph with street tires and the py stock AOD. With the upgraded AOD I have now I'm hoping to run faster. Hopefully I'll find out next weekend.
He had some machine work done....I remember there were a couple of options available.....Not sure which one he went with.
As far as I know he used the locks and retainers I sold him; which were the following:
Locks: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-51400444/
Retainers: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-51400423/
I had the heads done and they machined the spring surfaces so everything would work as it should. As far as the height,I really don't know.I had the sheet that had the info on it,and the flow sheet. They got lost somewhere between the machine shop, and me getting them into my noteboff (all the Sport's info as far as parts,etc.).Kitz has pics of the engine and said he'd post them for me.My photobucket (and any other picture hosting site) won't let me upload pics.I have no idea why.
If they machined the spring seats for the springs, you should be good then. Or they could have just replaced all the exhaust valves to have the same install height. I know for a fact the stock retainers wouldnt work with double springs. I just didnt want to put that much into GT40's. I have roughly $600 in them now. Ugh.....
