The wipers work, the washers work, the delay wipers work......but they wont go all of the way down when they are turned off.
They did this a couple of weeks ago, and was able to turn the wipers back on and off a couple of times, and they finally went down.
But there was this buzzing sound if the key was off, but the wipers were not parked. Once i turned on the key, it would stop. Also, once they were they down, the buzzing noise stopped.
Tonight, they are down (but not all the way in their parked position), and there is no buzzing.
What wrong??? The switch in the steering column??
The park circuit is in the motor not the switch .
I have seen your symptoms after the wipers were turned on when frozen to the windshield in the winter . :D
However it could be either the switch or the motor , but I would lean towards the motor
I had this problem too. I just kept playing with it, and it worked. Just put the wipers up and down a bunch of times. Has it been a while since you used them last? My car sat for 7+ years, and it did this. Perhaps that might be the cause.
Went thru the same thing on my 86, on mine you could push them down with no resistance. There is some tech info on the Coolcats site which gives you some ideas. I replaced the motor to cure mine.
That happened on my '88 Sport way back when.
I was able to play with the switch the past couple of weeks. But yesterday, it just wouldn't work out. I tried pushing them down, and they wont go.
So it definately in the motor??? Gonna hit pic-a-part on thursday, need to make sure I get right thing.
There is no way to determine that 100% over the internet , BUT I'd lay 80% odds that it is the motor
Wiper motor
Yeah you have to pull the wiper motor out and actually take off the cover for the gear drive or something...cant remember exactly how its put together but no you wont have pieces flying everywhere...you just have to get to the copper contacts that make the circuit that tell it to park them. They are likely dirty/corroded/etc like mine were...mine actually didnt look bad, which worried me, but cleaning them up to look like new again made them the park again instantly when I put it all back together.
In fact..heres a lil more descriptive individual's directions ;) http://www.coolcats.net/tech/troubleshooting/wipers.html
Yeah, same here I've been needing to undergo that process myself. They work half the time, and the other half is, well, .....not so much properly. Can push mine right down when they stick too.
