....but the Sport took care of me.
I had gone to pick up my son from school, and on the way home, about 3/4 of a mile, the tranny wouldn't shift, and the clutch pedal felt "odd".I guessed a broken clutch cable.I was going fast enough that I was able to make a quick illegal u-turn across two lanes (nobody coming) and off on an access road.Once I got there, the car died.I pushed it about 25 feet then a roll down hill to a residential area.I looked under the dash and under the car,but I couldn't see anything wrong.I put the car into gear whil it was off, started it,and the Sport got me home.I pulled the cable and there it was lots of frayed wires above the quadrant.I emailed UPR and they'll send a free replacement.I got an Autozone cable to get me by.I'll probably go with a genuine Ford cable soon.I haven't tried this cable out yet.I will in the morning. In the mean time,I'm glad the Sport did her job.I love this car.
On a side note, totally unrelated....I got my new Taylor plug wires today.Blue ones for the new engine.
Good job Sport!
She'll be well rewarded soon.More power,prettier engine,a/c,tinted windows,re-covered seats,and dynomat.That should keep er for a while.LOL.
The best cable I have owned is a Steeda. I have one on both my t-top car and my hatch mustangs. Both of them get a beating and they hold up good! Plus they will replace it if it breaks but the guy from Steeda said "it wont break" so far he has told the truth! lol
I'll look into those cables after I finish some other tasks.I'll keep the UPR as a back up.
That's why you need to learn how to drive it without a clutch. ;)
That's your problem right there.....
Started it in gear? So did you drive home in 1st or rev match?
Build up the rpms.....shift and zoom.
I agree, the UPR cable is disappointing. It'll be kept in the trunk as a back up (They're sending a new one...lifetime warranty).I'll buy the Ford or Steeda when,as I stated, some other tasks are taken care of.
I have no idea what my cable is, but it might be cheap insurance to keep a spare in the trunk. Then again, mine will only be driven 2-3 days a week anyway...and I'm between 5 and 3,000 years before I get to that point.
At least you made it home under your own power lol
I was thinking the same thing.:hick:
Freek,I drive mine everyday, but only put about 6-7000 miles a year on the Sport. Most all of my driving is local, and anywhere in town isn't more than a 4 mile round trip. The Sport has never let me down. The Blue '88 I had, although a beautiful ca,ped on me a LOT.Always testing me.Eventually,it got parted and crushed instead of repaired. My loaylty for it ran out.The Sport is "the" car.Gayle likes it more as well. She grew to hate the blue car.
I agree about the UPR cables. When I got mine,I also got one for a friend as a package deal. His did the same thing 2 weeks ago.The cables lasted about a year and a half.I never heard anything about them until some time after it was installed. Now I understand a lot of the comments were true. But,as a backup,it'll be great in a tight spot.....which I hope doesn't happen again.
Your car was probably still a little sore at you, from you letting it get photographically violated.
Letting it get violated? We were both somewhat emotionally overwhelmed and photographically hurt by the whole incident. She must be feeling better, because I installed the new cable yesterday, and drove it this afternoon. It shifts better than it ever has since the 5 speed swap about a year and a half ago.easier,smoother.Holy !! Awesome.
Did you replace the quadrant?
No,mine is an FMS aluminum quadrant....it stays.
