Title: Needing seat-back adjustment levers for 86 Turbo Cougar
Post by: CougarGal on March 21, 2010, 09:27:59 PM
I'm desperate for the driver's side lever mechanism but would like to have the ones for the passenger side as well (just in case it breaks too).  It's the assembly that adjusted the slant of the upper part of the front seats that has the little  that sticks out of the back of the seat down near the bottom.  The body shop guys broke mine and I've had to stuff a plastic crate behind the seat to hold it in the fully upright position so I can drive it ;-(    If you have, or know where I can get this/these, you can either reply here or email me at goin_too_fast@yahoo.com    THANKS!!

Here's a pic of the part of the mechanism that sticks out of the back of the seat (below the green arrow).  It's the portion that's actually inside the seat that's broken:

The seat mechanisms from Fox body Stangs work as well.I have one on my car.The salvage yards usually have them for cheap, and they are super easy to pull off and re-install.The little lever is connected to the entire "hinge" part.

The column lever should be interchangeable.I may have one.I'll let you know right after work tomorrow. If I do,it'll run you $20.00 shipped to your door.

Just about any Fox body Mustang.'85 up to '93 should be a direct bolt on.It has (I believe) 4 bolts (Torx) that hold it on.So,you'd need a Torx bit and a phillips head screwdriver, and about 2 minutes to remove one.Cougar,Thunderbird,Mustang....all the same.I'm going to bed.I'll be in touch tomorrow afternoon.

The seat type in them doesn't matter. The standard seats, and the "sport" seats shared the same hinge assemblies. They are usually $5.00 or free at the yard I go to.Good luck.If I can help in any way,let me know.

Thanks!!  From running a few quick searches, it would appear that they have several possibilities.  Guess we'll be making a trip to the other side of Nashville tomorrow and keeping our fingers crossed that one has seats still in it.

I'd like to take you up on your offer if it still stands.  The cars at our pull-apart here have all already had their interior scavaged ;-(    Let me know how much you want and how I can get the money to you and we'll go from there.  Just PM me your instructions (Paypal would be great!)

Thanks again!

If you wouldn't mind grabbing a couple for me (passenger and driver's sides), I'd gladly reimburse you for you expenses and trouble to send them to me.  I can send bank funds through PayPal so you'd have the money immediately ;-)

WHAT IS IT with people that work on cars that ensure they'll break one thing while fixing something else!

I find myself, yet again,  in dire need of a drivers' side seat back hinge / adjustor....  Grrrr....  and can't locate one locally.  Anybodh got one or know wbere to get one?  Thanks!
