hey guys. to those of you with cowl hoods, how wide is the cowl itself? i want to make sure the hood will clear my intake but judging by pictures alone, none appear to be wide enough. maybe its just the way it shows in pictures, i dont know. but i definatly dont want to buy one that will hit. thanks guys.
Keith
I use the SC124 Scoop on my stock hood and here's the link to the measurements. http://www.up22.com/scoopw1.htm#SC-124
thank you. if it comes down to it, that is what i will get then. i was kinda hoping to find a full hood. i dont know how comfortable i am with cutting up my hood. but with those dimensions, that cowl will work.
vfn fiberglass hood will definitely clear anything
5 inch tall is a little extreme for me. a 3 will clear. its just that that two to three inches sticking up is as wide as a fuel injected 5.0 manifold. i called champion hood, which was who i planned on buying from if it fit(says they coat thiers and its cheap) but the guy was no help to me whatsoever.
Here is two shots of my hood . It came from Motion Performance on Long Island . The scoops were grafted in custom .

, I love the look of that Bird !!!
Here's one I've been eyeballin'. Not sure about the quality, but when I'm ready, they're close enough for me to drive and check 'em out.

Number 24. At $178 it's cheap enough but I don't think you can use stock hinges? So it would be a 4 pin lift off only.
I sent them an email to ask about shipping and the weight of the hood.
If you get a chance to look at them, please post the feedback.
As a side note this is what they say on the web-site
"Our parts are not perfect and do require you to put the time and effort into prepping them for installation but we have priced them accordingly. "
They also make a deck-lid but it does look scary cheap in the picture, see number 11 http://motorsportspartsusa.com/fiberglass_deck%20lids/

that's Mikes old place. he made the first 4" tbird hood for me, then sold a ton of them after mine was done. you can use your hinges but not the latch. he was local to me in florida( the people who bought it moved to ohio i think) so there was no shipping. for what i paid it was a decent hood. that said i wouldn't pay to have it shipped. here's the only pic i have of the hood on my car

How much fab/fitting work did you have to do to yours ? I was under the impression that most fiberglass pieces need some kind of massaging. I'm not opposed as long as it's not major re-construction.
i just bolted it on and adjusted it, fit pretty decent, about 1/8" gaps on the sides. i never painted it but it was relitively flat, not real wavy. i'm no body guy though. the hoods are pretty thin but seem to be strong. if your close i'd go see them. remember i got mine from Mike, the original owner of mp motorsports. i don't know how they are now that the "new" owners build them.
This is the reply I got from them.
"Yes this is a lift off hood only... I am not sure if it will work with hinges. The weight of the hood is 45# and the freight charges are going to be expensive. The hood has to ship via truck so the cost is going to be between $189.00 and $193.00.
Yes we do accept PayPal payments.
Thank you,
Stephanie"
So I'm up to $400 and I think I'm going to pass. From looking at the pictures there is no place to bolt on hinges.

I have the 3" Dominator from US Body. Here is the link: http://www.usbody.com/__Photo-Product-Views/A-Hood-Specs/T-Hoods/ttbh-83.htm (http://"http://www.usbody.com/__Photo-Product-Views/A-Hood-Specs/T-Hoods/ttbh-83.htm")
Can get measurement tomorrow if you want. I used the factory springless hinges with a prop rod.
The scoop measures 24.5" wide at top x 30" wide at bottom (sides are angled) x 55" long. The scoop starts about 1.5" from the front of the hood. The scoop comes back towards the windshield past the end of the hood.
I'm on US Body Source's website right now and they have the 3" Dominator race weight pin on for $100 !!!

I sure cannot find this price?
thank you so much. that is exactly all the info i was looking for!:D
at the very top of the page in little tiny letters it says "hoods $100"
if you click on it the bird hood is on the bottom of the list
US body source parts are EXCELLENT! i had one of their hoods on my old 73 mustang. fit and finish was outstanding.
Thanks,
Cash only and no shipping on these hoods! Pick up only at Florida Warehouse.
