Title: Complete S197 8.8" Rear
Post by: V8Demon on March 19, 2010, 06:35:50 PM
Time for me to upgrade.

Up for sale is a COMPLETE S 197 8.8" rear end from a 2005 Mustang GT.  It will be coming out of the car on or about April 3rd and currently has 10,703 miles on it.

The rear has 3.31 gears, trac-lok, and 31 spline axles.  No clunks, noises, or issues of any kind; it is in PERFECT working order.  This is a perfect upgrade for the V6 cars and a cheap alternative for a boned rear for V8 guys.....

I'm located in Farmingdale, NY;but the rear will be at a business location in East Islip, NY.  I'd prefer you picked it up, but drop off CAN be arranged.  If it's rather far that MAY cost extra.

Price -- $450.

PM me for more details and transaction arrangements.

out of curiosity, and for my own future reference, what is the WMS width on a s197 axle?

WMS

I'm at a loss for what this acronym stands for.
FWIW -- the center section is in fact offset on the S197's...

According to this post -- http://mmb.maverick.to/showpost.php?p=373065&postcount=5 axle to axle is 65.5"

I know the housing is wider than the 94-98's, but Im not sure if it is the same width as the 99-04's or if even wider still.

Hell, not even THIS (http://"http://www.classicmustangshop.com/2005mustang_specs.pdf") shows the width.....

sorry.
WMS = Wheel Mounting Surface

65.5 is wider than i was expecting to see....i think an F150 8.8 is 65.5" also, wow.

I purchased an entire 2008 Bullitt rear - brand new - replete with 3.73's and the upgraded clutches that are standard on the GT500......

The plan is another 100 RWHP by year end.....

Nice, then you will need an aluminator short block!

I am waiting for my Kooks longtubes/catted x-pipe to be delivered.

Guy I'm friendly with has 503 RWHP and runs 10.9's........

Stock, unopened block.  Over 100 passes and 30K in current trim.  I'm looking for 480-490.....

The new rear should net a high 11 with a good launch and track prep.....We'll see...

Change of plans.  No longer for sale.  I'll be upgrading this rear with a detroit locker and 3.73's as they have discontinued the Bullitt rear.
