Finally warmed up enough that I thought I'd play around in the garage. I was looking around the car, daydreamin' different colors and stripes etc. Looked thru the grill opening, the bottom of the core support looks like it came from the bottom of a lake !!!
Crusty flakes and holes ! No rust anywhere else, just the core support ! :punchballs:
There's a couple of them in the local Pull-A-Part, is this an easy removal / install ?
You'll need a tack weld removal bit.I've seen a few swapped by the Northern guys.We don't have those issues here.
It's weird, the sides of the support are great. It's just the very bottom of it. I may just scavenge that section and weld it in.
of course you know I replaced most of the front end.
you need to replace one of these?

daminc, that's exactly the area of mine that is bad.
I'm debating whether or not to let it go till winter rolls around again.
if it's still in 1 piece and not flapping, you should have no problem with waiting until winter. This was mine and it was still supporting

If I'd clean up the flaking it would probably look like your old one. Is the core support the same in the Mustangs or is it T-Bird specific ?
I believe they're diff, but not sure about just replacing only the bottom. that part may be usable. (unless they're narrower)
Another place to watch out for...seems somewhat common at least on northeast cars.
yes,, they do rust a bit in that area.
