Title: Took a trip to the closest Boneyard.
Post by: Whiteboy on March 12, 2010, 05:08:59 PM
Well im going to start going to all the boneyards near me to find anything... Here is what a local place that used to be nice before it sold out to a big "thinker" had yesterday....two lincolns and a cougar....

First, this is the part i went out looking for....never found it...the far left side is broke off....see.

this is my engine. also what i came for....buuut...i found it in a lincoln....H.O. stuff

some kinda nice lincoln rims...

Oh by the way... the cougar was in line for the Monster truck show that night....everything was perfect in it...:punchballs:

Can anyone tell me what all i should take off the H.O. to help the conversion process go by faster? or should i just try to buy the whole car off him so i can deal with it at home?

ive been looking for an intake manifold like that for a while...where'd u get it? i love the blue...the plans for my engines colors are to be chrome and blue like that as much as possible.

You should grab the headers from the Lincoln, and the upper intake assembly. They are better than the stock 5.0 uppers, and the throttlebody is a little bigger as well.Just swap the upper,T-Body and spacer directly over......and the headers...and maybe the Lincoln's H-Pipe....with hollowed cats....yes,that's it.

I got it off a 5.0 Explorer. It's a cast GT40 intake.

Thunderjet stop posting that G-D engine bay!! :rollin:

And let it be known I ordered not one but ****TWO***** of those stickers from 50resto, back last summer when I made a huuuuge deal out of the fact that I absolutely-gotta-have one on my airbox, and everyone directed me there. I of course ha to have another to sit in my toolbox unopened JUST IN CASE!!!! :hick:

They do tend to dry out and curl and peel off and fly away.
Im just such a big fan of it that I had to point out that it's intact. LOL

If you can, get the whole engine from that Linc...IF it runs, and doesn't have half a million miles, that is.

Lol well i checked into that lincoln. Im going to buy the core engine for 125 bucks becasue he isnt sure if it runs or not. which i dont care because im not going to put it directly in, im taking off all the parts required for the conversion. BUT. I have another issue, this is a 1990 Lincoln Mark vII.... I dont think the Brain will work with my engine will it? I can get the brain outta it for another 35 bucks but i just want ask u guys first. Cool Cats only mentions up to 88 markVII's.... And if not, Anyone found a good brain they wanna sell? BTW, the headers for the H.O. look dinted, did they all do that when they were bent or are they not very good to use?

$125 is a bargain , the headers normally look like that, and they are fine for a stock HO

I heard a guy mention something the other day and i kinda ignored it because i didnt really care, but it got me enough to ask you guys, why would we delete our plastic fan for an aluminum, isnt it just as light? also here is a picture of a little thin I found in a junkyard, turns out the 86 Cougar lived!!! the guys passed it up and set it on top of a chevy van, so i climbed up and found a peice that was in pretty good condition...

the far right has a little bottom round tab that has broken off, i didnt look hard but thats the only bad thing i found with it.

The eec (not "brain" this isn't anatomy lol) may or may not work, although I'd think it would. Probably be easier to get a DA1 from an '88 Stang 5.0. I have one in my Tbird, no issues whatsoever.

Ford Fuel Injection (http://"http://fordfuelinjection.com") .com has a ton of crucial info you should peruse.

Just remember, if you plan to use an HO eec, you WILL NEED the cam, heads, 19# injectors, and the HO upper/lower intakes, as well as the HO tb. The SO shiznit will not cut it.

You can use the heads, HO upper and lower, and bigger tb for now, but when you want to use the eec, you'll need the cam, and injectors also.

Just make sure you don't run the 19 pounders on a stock SO, otherwise you'll run rich.

If I were you, and got the HO complete, I'd check the oil. If it was good, not too shabby, I'd turn the engine over with a socket on the crank/balancer nut. If it turns over (in other words not seized) I'd just grab the eec you need, and run the  thing.

Then, if I had money left, I'd grab the rear from said Linc and slap it under there...

The Mark VII computer will work.I used everything from a Mark VII as my first H.O engine swap.Very straight forward. If you're converting your current engine, you can get away with the cam, intake, injectors, and computer. The heads are optional. The '86 Stangs had the same E-6 heads. Not great heads by any means, but, the car would still haul.

Post by: Whiteboy on March 18, 2010, 06:42:17 PM
Well the mark vii has every h.o. Part required already in it. If the EEC does work I'll have the conversion for 125 bucks. I don't wanna use te whole engine cuz there was a rat the size of a horse living in it.

Pretty hard to beat that price. Can you get the whole car?

Try to get the H pipe...if it's halfway decent.
Title: Took a trip to the closest Boneyard.
Post by: vinnietbird on March 19, 2010, 08:46:55 AM
A rat living in it,or ON it.On it wouldn't matter because you're going to use all of your current harness.Although,if you can get the headers and H-Pipe,I would get the O2 harness. It's longer than ours for the headers.Otherwise you'll need to lengthen the Bird's harness for the O2 sensors. If the engine was cheap enough,I'd grab it,just the long block, leave the accessories behind to save a few bucks, and go from there.

The Mark VII H-Pipe will have cats.I hollowed mine out and used nice turbo lers and the sound was great.Deep and serious.LOL.Do you have the H.O cam already? As far as accessories. All of the ones on the stock motor are just fine. The Mark VII used a different alternator bracket (larger alternator). So,to sum things up,

What do you have already?

What are you getting from the Mark VII?

Mark VII parts needed...
  injectors
  Intake assembly (upper intake,throttle body,spacer)
E-7 heads (grab the factory aluminum valve covers as well)
  factory headers
  H.O cam
  ECM
H-Pipe (bolts right to the headers, fits our chassis)
Dip stick tube (grab it,they are getting harder to find anyway)

Keep all of the bolts you pull off...headers,intake,timing cover, etc. Timing cover bolts are widely know to snap off,and the header bolts are different than the stock exhaust manifold bolts.

New parts....
  gaskets (intake,heads,valve covers,water pump/timing cover,headers,throttle body,oil  pan,rear main seal)
  fluids
  timing chain (double roller)
water pump (now's the time to add a new one if yours is old)
spark plugs for the E-7 heads
  oil filter

Also,an H.O or larger (higher flow) fuel pump would be good.

That's a good start.I think I hit it all....If not,someone add to the list.

Post by: Beau on March 20, 2010, 10:29:10 PM
The eec, and possibly the wires for the O2 sensors (on my Mustang 5.0, they were different than my Tbird wires..not sure if the Mark7 is the same way.........)
Title: Took a trip to the closest Boneyard.

Lol my dad is gunna kill me when I mention the fuel pump!
Title: Took a trip to the closest Boneyard.
Post by: vinnietbird on April 03, 2010, 08:57:27 AM
For the O2 sensors, all I had to do was lengthen the O2 harness a few inches.EASY stuff there. For the EEC,the Mark VII computer is a direct swap. You'll need to swap the plug wires around, but that's nothing. No mods other than the exhaust and the O2 harness are needed.Everything else is literally a plug and play (or bolt on).

Where do you stand now on your parts?

the intake is kinda scuffed up on that corner, idk what the heck he did to it but i think itll clean up. Also, does that T-body look alrite to you? I dunno if ill keep it...
Title: Took a trip to the closest Boneyard.
Post by: vinnietbird on April 08, 2010, 03:01:58 PM
You have the air filter in wrong. The plate mounts to the inner fender, and the filter goes inside the inner fender (between the fender and inner fender) for cold air.

That throttlebody is fine. The EGR needs to be replaced though. Those mat=rks on the throttlebody are more than likely where someone tapped with some tool to break it free from whatever intake it originally came off of.It's fine, though.

one of the biggest things i noticed was the valve covers, before i knocked on it i honestly thought it was plastic haha. I might just keep these but paint them.... anyone have any engine color ideas that no one has? If not im going with blue and chrome and dont care who else has it i like it haha. BTW my H.O. intake plate wont fit my GT40 intake so it looks like ill have to buy a pretty cobra one haha.

The stupid lower intake is practically welded to the block! I've worked for three days to pry this thing off and even when I beat it with a hammer and pry bar it stays put... Any ideas? All of the bolts are out the only thing that's appears to be holding it is the seal... In starting to lose patience. Any help?

Just slow down, look it over real good. There's something that you missed still holding it down. Don't worry, happens to us all once in awhile...lol

Do yourself a favor and take the coolant tube off.  The coolant tube has one nut holding it down.  Under that nut once the tube is off is a stud with another nut on it.

Remove the 4 8mm (head size) bolts that hold the fuel rail to the intake.  Use a prybar or a big screw driver to pop the rail off the injectors.

PS. Buy new injector O rings when you put this together.  Fuel leaks suck.

ill remember that lol. I have a new fuel rail and injectors already fitted onto the gt40 so ill see how that goes... Got it allll apart... and by the way no one told me there was TWO bolts in the middles instead of going with the pattern of one bolt in the middle of every injector.... i found them and it popped right off haha. So its all broke down now im gunna borrow a buddy's engine stand or just buy one from someone cuz the new ones are too expensive and then start on the bottom side... wish me luck lol I dont even think i need to take this thing apart honestly it all looks so good! the cylinders are smooth....oil was old but clean, the filter that prolly hadnt been changed for fifteen years didnt have shavings in it or anything...
