Title: T5 Scrach in 2nd Gear
Post by: 88CougarGT on March 12, 2010, 11:42:53 AM
5.0HO with HCI and exhaust, WC T5 from 89 Mustang GT swapped in.

If I do a High(er) RPM shift from 1st-2nd, I get a little grind before going in.  I know its probably the synchro but I don't have the time to get to it right now.  Lower RPM shifts (<3k) are nice and smooth.

I am running Dex/Merc ATF in the trans.  I was wondering if switching to a full synthetic might improve the shift.

With my Cam and Intake, the car makes great power from about 3500 on up, but I cant shift in those ranges...so i'm sad.  There is alot of ideas on what to run on A WC T5, most of it seems to be voodoo.

Also, I get a grind going into reverse unless I shift into 5th then down into reverse.

Any ideas?

The only thing I can comment on is the reverse thing ,
the reverse shaft spins backward so they almost always grind ,
even when new or freshly rebuilt .
When I worked at the Ford dealer we always used the pattern....... clutch in 2nd, 4th , reverse Never had a problem then .
It actually became second nature after a while .

Yea, I heard that the reverse grind thing was a "get use to it because all Mustang T5s do"  I'm ok with it.  Just thought might tingle someones trouble shooter bone.
