Title: Digital dash Oil Pressure
Post by: mtgmike on March 11, 2010, 10:30:46 AM

Since I got the bird it either looks like this, or reads full pressure the whole time. It never goes back and forth, its one or the other unless I turn the car completely off.  It's no trouble to replace the sender, but Im wondering if this means anything to somebody?

That means that the gauge is receiving information from the sender that is above the normal range it is capable of displaying.  Your problem could be the sender, or it could be this brown resistor piece that is in-line with the sender.  I would test the sender and see what kind of numbers you get.  I don't have my EVTM with me right now, so does someone else know the testing procedure and what "good" results should be?

I'd bet $100 that the sender on your car is the smaller one that requires the use of the resistor and that the resistor is gone completely.

Full digi-dash cars were originally designed to come with the bigger sending unit.  Early on there was a TSB and those were swapped in favor of the smaller one with the resistor attached inline with it.

I'd be willing to bet ANOTHER $100 that if you put the resistor in with the small sending unit that your car will read low pressure after it warms up and the chime will go off like mad.  Check your pressure with a true gauge and then swap to the bigger sender and the extension tube you need to install it once you ensure you have no issues (or fix the ones you MAY have)

Thanks for that info, V8Demon.  I've had the same issue with the digital pressure gauge in my car for a while now.

Mine has the factory little sender and the gauge actually moves. It goes from 4 bars when first started to 5 after about 10 seconds. It's done that with the original motor as well as the new one:hick:
