Curious to what the going rate is on wages these days. Anyone?
50-52 in my area--irv
Would depend on how good you are. It's a specialty kind of work.
I think it's about 75/hr here
Lol, Jerry.... shop rate? or hourly wage?
hourly shop rate.
You don't even want to know what I charge for building.
I think he wants to know what the average yearly income is of an employed autobody tech. Just my opinion.
I have a college degree in it, but never used it afterward. Just trying to figure my options.
thinking $25 per hr starting
All of the shops I have worked at, the pay is kinda of commissioned based.
Yea the company might agree to pay you however much per hour, but that is just a small reflection of the payscale. With ever vehicle repair you are given a certain amount of time to complete the repair. And that is all you get paid for(whatever the estimate was).
So in other words if the shop foreman says the repair should take five hours you get paid for five hours no matter how long (or quickly) it actually takes you.
So if your good at body work and are quick at it and good at multitasking you can make good money, but if you are slow then your going to starve.
Make sense? Hope this helps some. These are just my opinions from my experience.
You should defiantly look at the shops turn over rate, if they can't keep techs there is probably a good reason for it. Either they don't have enough customers going through the shop or the foreman quotes unreasonable estimates that the techs just can't keep up with.
It depends on where you live....more people= more wrecks= more work for the shop= the more the techs get paid
Where they're more paid, is where I might go.
