Title: got a new summer toy tonight
Post by: 1WLD BRD on March 02, 2010, 07:51:10 PM
since I am back to work now I decided to grab another stang to play with.

I wanted a fox GT, but when this deal came up I had to grab it.

it is a 1990 5.0L LX coupe.

pretty decent project car..  needs a driverside frame rail, but other then that it is SOLID!:D  should be a fun summer... does this::burnout: in second gear from a cruise LOL.

thats as bad as saying COBRA R's....  WAY OVERDONE!  this car will NEVER have welds on it....  infact I am quite happy with the 16" rims on it now...

the frame rail is quite bad, but I have a mint rust free one I cut out of a parts car  last summer to go in it.  I will quickly patch up this rail for the summer, then when I tear it down in the fall it will get fixed properly by a body shop.  at the same time the bay will get smoothed and re painted.

Do you have all the center caps for those wheels? They look like they are CSA rims, I have a set on my 86 Capri and would like to find another set. Let me know if you change your mind and want to sell them!!

Later, RAY

Already did, it didnt come with the car... apparantly it belongs to his dad or something....

It definatly requires a clutch soon, and needs a bit of other TLC before I will be totally happy with it, but it is a solid start me thinks. LOL

Nice car!! The reason Prostars are so overdone is because they work so well. They really look good on Mustangs. Whatever wheel you go with, you're going to have a sharp car!!

well I finally had time to tinker on her today. Found that the rubber bushing in the shifter handle went for a  at some point, so someone just bolted it up without the steel sleeves in the bushing? WTF!. which with all the play there would be why it felt like the shifter was gonna fall off... If you have ever taken one of these shifter handles off you know how big the holes are in them that the bolts go through. to tell you how much play there was my hand touched the radio everytime I TRIED to find fifth.... took a while LOL.

swapped in a modified stock handle I made, and the feel and throw is back to the way it should be.

next I checked the quadrant... Stock.... hmmm, I wonder if it will hold adjustment? took a minute to tighten it up. well pedal feels 150% better... lets go grab a few gears and see if it holds the adjustment....

So far so good, went down the road turned around and pounded her through a few gears and no issues so far.... man what a difference!
