happy birth month purdy cat :D
Happy birthday Cougar!
Cant WAIT til mine's 25...hellooooo cheap-ass classic insurance!
Happy birthday Dan's cat! :D
Plus you get antique vehicle plates:D
...And in NY you become emissions exempt. $10 inspections as opposed to $37.....
Congrats, Dan. Mine turns 23 on St. Patrick's day. Yes -- the build sheet stated 3/17/1987......
I shudder to think if it were the day AFTER.....:rollin:
FWIW my Mustang was built on 2/14/2005...... No joke.
In Illinois any vehicle built prior to 1996 (1995 and down, so pre OBD II) is not subject to an emissions test. It's been that way since 2005. Illinois did it because they didn't want to maintain the dyno's to check pre 1996 cars emissions.
What is this vehicle inspection you speak of?;)
Wish NY had the mindset to realize that the machines for the pre-'96 cars are not cost effective. Inspection stations are privately owned out here. The machines themselves are under contract to a private vendor of the state's choosing.......The government washes it's hands of it (although I wonder how much grease it takes to get/keep that private vendor contract as it's changed hands a few times.....)
V8, would you happen to know about this?....
Regarding thunderjet's comment about the historical plates. Definitely cool, I have 'em on the '38. But even cooler of course is year-of-manufacture plates. I have a set or two of the old "liberty plates" used from like 1985 to 2002 or something (for the record they were AWESOME our current plates are lame :punchballs:) and I wonder if once it can be registered as a classic, if I could use those as "year of manufacture" plates. Though they were used for many years I wonder if that aspect of MV registration still applies? That would be siiiiiiick.
And yea the stupid chassis dynos for you downstaters are a terrible idea to keep going. I get the feeling pretty much any shop around here wont even look to see if you have cats if you're pre-OBDII unless they're friggin boy-scouts about it LOL.
Thank You all for your very kind words....plus this is why our  Forum rocks :headbang:
Dan & Paula ;)
Historical plates are the plates that were issued and on the car when it was built.. I'm looking for my old set of gold and blue plates to put on the vert. It's also 25 this year.
I still have the original liberty plates that were on my 87. just have to wait 2 more years to put them back on again. they have all the info you need at the NY DMV on line
Happy Birthday.I know what the Cougar wants for a gift.....new wheels !!!! Spokes for the shows, new ones for riding around.....c'mon....do it !!!!
Happy Birthday to that black cat :D
Thanks V-man , Remember it's a Classic now and it's staying that way. :rollin:
It would be legit huh? I cant WAIT :D Oh man...that literally made my day. Just to know I'll be able to be rockin' those plates. Talk about an eye catcher!
Congrats, 25 is the biggest year for cars. I'm looking forward to having a 25 year old car. I already have antique tags and a '79 plate for my Yamaha 650.
37 for a inspection? wow. 21 here upstate.. I'm a certified inspector. As for the plates. didnt know that, i wanted statue plates not blue and gold. Yuck.
yes, you have to take them to the dmv to make sure the #s aren't registered to someone else first. then you can do your plate transfer the regular way i guess. guessing the #s won't be a problem as they were a diff number letter combo then I believe
Right that's what I've always been told about Y.O.M. plates. Seeing as I still have to sometime get around to buying some '38 plates for the Buick. :hick: Usually go for like $50-60 not bad at all....but that's the asininely cheap side of me!!!! Very nice news though.
In North Carolina a vehicle has to be 35 years old to qualify for any antique or historic vehicle status. So I'm counting the days until 2022!
Here, no emissions for 1967 and earlier, and emissions every year for every car after. Except for 1995 up, for some reason they get to skip every other year. My car will never qualify for historic plates, and unless I move outside my county, I will always have emissions.
Happy Birthday Dan's Cat!!! Still lookin good after all those years!
I've had classic plates on my T-Bird since it turned 15. I've also had classic ins. since then. I just wish we could personalize them, I had 1BD BIRD on my plate until I got the classics. I still have the old plate and registration so if I ever get another it'll get renewed and put on it. I actually did have it on my 95 Bird when I had it.
you should look into how long before your state allows that custom plate to be reissued especially now that you put it out there that in Pa. that name is open. just some food for thought
congrats dan on the first 25 years heres to 25 more for the cat:bowdown:
Thanks, I'll defenately check it out. But I'm pretty sure without sending it back to them it keeps it tied up. I could be wrong though.
I just looked at it and it's been 4 years since it's been on a car. I don't know if there's a certain time limit before they reinstate it or not, of course if I get turned down when I try to renew it I'll know.
