Title: Junkyard Finds 2010
Post by: jandmmustangs on January 17, 2010, 01:54:27 PM
Ok guys, we had a pretty decent weather weekend here in PA so I decided to go our scrounging. Nothing really new in the one local pick a part yard with the exception of a 86 stang GT that someone converted to an Aero look. I made out good on that one. I grabbed the 5 speed pedals and low and behold i got an aluminum SVO quadrant attached to it. For the guy on here with the 80-82 Cougar here's the twin of your car. Lotsa good parts left.
I had to get a picture of this. It was a 65/66 Galaxie with an FE. Someone took the engine but left the heads. I woulda loved to see em get that sucker out.
Also there was one SN95 stang in there with the front spindles still on.

What is the rear of that car sitting on? It looks as if its floating in midair.

They must have had the Cougar pulled out for someone. Normally they don't have them sitting on concrete. From the looks of the mountains I thought that was it but the Cougar threw me!
Have you ever been to the yard up around Leesport somewhere?

Yeah ive been to A-Z. Its kinda hit and miss there. Last time i was up they had a complete 87/8 T-bird 5.0 red with red sport interior
It seems that EZ Pull is putting all the "newer" stuff up on concrete now. Makes it easier until you need that one specific part that blocked.

Tail lights, turn signals in the front bumper and a center console if it has one.
Would you be willing to grab those for me?

Awesome, Actually though you didn't say what year 'stang it was. Needing 94-95 Spindles, Don't have the stuff to make the 96 and ups work.
If you need help ID'ing the year let me know. Here's a great pic to help id the spindle year: (http://www.fquick.com/images/vehicles/full/507992299.jpg)
Most noticeably, The lower arm is curved on the 94-95. Thanks Much.

Did you happen to see any Town Cars (mid-90's) when you were up there? I need to get my hands on another harness and module so I can do the heated seats mod on my passenger seat.

If that Cougar also has power windows, I'd be interested in the door panels and switches. I'm going to want to convert mine from manual windows.

The clear front bumper lights from the red car are a must have,as are the Cougar lights up front and the corner lights from the '87/'88 Bird.Leather wrapped steering wheel, brown console lid,red console lid,......grab that stuff !!!!

Post by: Loaded87IROC on January 23, 2010, 10:49:59 PM
I was going to grab the clear lights, but then I noticed one of them was cracked, so I left them behind. The 87-88 Cougar headlights aren't as clear as they look in the pictures. Its an 80 mile round trip, so I probably won't be back out there unless somebody really needs something from those cars.

I agree. I try to grab them from all Foxes and Crown Vic/Grand Marquis that have them. I was pretty grouchy that they crushed that 83 TC at this yards sister lot before I got some parts I wanted from it, so I wasn't going to let that happen to again.

sadly to the yards they are just steel.
Title: Junkyard Finds 2010
Post by: Romeo2k on January 24, 2010, 05:41:51 AM
... That's a Nice Heritage. Next time your out there you should grab the Un-Broken Clear Front Light, So next time you find a car with only 1 good light you can make a pair (Both sides are interchangeable, it's just the metal backing plate that is specific)~I've had to do this a few times as one light always seems to be cracked or broken. :-/
Also the Heritage emblem from the dash, And the center caps/logos from the wheel covers.
I want to go diggin' in the yards, But wont happen for at least another 2 months~Weather is still and people aren't motivated to do anything outside (like cleanup there properties or remove vehicles). So the local yard is kinda slow right now, Plus its no fun in this weather at the junkyard in general. *pouts* lol.

If you can, please grab these things from the red one for me: The grille front light bezzels with orange park lamps both outside mirrors (if they are OK) tail lights and if you will have some time, all chrome moldings.
And from the blue one the hood opening system.
Thanks :)
Title: Junkyard Finds 2010
Post by: Loaded87IROC on January 24, 2010, 12:33:58 PM
Trinom, the grille had some nicks taken out of it and the taillights were cracked. I didn't get a chance to check out the mirrors. Are you looking for chrome ones? BTW, I am still on the lookout for that clock you asked me for.
Title: Junkyard Finds 2010
Post by: Trinom on January 24, 2010, 02:19:09 PM
If the nicks are only light, it's ok. The lights are totaly cracked, or only some part. I want them only for rebuild to go through the technical control station (orange lamps needed :beatyoass:). I don't need any perfect ones. Yes, I would like to have chrome details on my bird. Some minor nics would be OK, it isn't the show car :D
Thanks

Looks like someone yanked the bird off the d-side, And broke the lens trying to get the p-side off. ;) Something i've noticed~83's have metal birds on the tails, Where as 84's have plastic w/ chrome birds.
BTW, Did it have a blue bird on the grille?
Title: Junkyard Finds 2010
Post by: Loaded87IROC on January 24, 2010, 04:26:46 PM
I didn't notice if it had a blue bird on the grille. Now that you mention it, it does look like they cracked the taillight getting that bird off. Here is a pic of the electroluminescent coach lamps.
It isn't so bad, because the cracked part will be cut anyway. I want to put there the backup lamp from '86 tail light and this backup lamp will glow orange (stupid Czech laws).

I took the F150 junkyarding for the first time today! Unfortunately, all the previous Fox Cougar and Tbirds have been crushed, but they were replaced with a whole new set. Here are some pics! First time I have ever seen manual windows and mirrors in person. Where the heck is the window crank for the passenger side though?
Trinom, I haven't forgotten about you. I don't plan on going back to that yard anytime soon. I also looked for the buttstuffog clock for your buddy and didn't find it, sorry.

Just Shrink Wrap/Plastic Food Wrap it up and mail it like a package probably, Might even fold (Not Sure). This is how i received a 3 piece rear bumper ground effects one time. I think also if you take it to the Post Office they have giant rolls of brown paper, And you could ask them to roll it in that, then tape it all up. :hick:
If anyone else has any ideas on shipping this~Please let me us know ASAP! Would really like this for my T-Bird.

I have one that I'm going to try to see if it'll work in my 88. I hope it will, I think it's a nice finish piece. As far as shipping, get a large piece of cardboard and make a big envelope by folding it around it.

shrink wrap is the best way to go, I just sent a console and a trunk liner set out shrink wrapped it cuts down on the cost of shipping because of the overall size and is pretty durable. I built a brace out of some old corner molding to keep from bending the liner all up. the trunk lid carpet is the same once folded it's junk, has a hard backing

Post by: 1Bad88tbird on February 05, 2010, 08:12:50 AM
Like hcor said, you don't want to fold it. I've never tried to ship just using shrink wrap but it makes scense. I just like using cardboard, I think it gives some added protection.

I've got another pending purchase, So i need to make my paypal funds work (for both transactions). I should have enough... But any idea how much they might charge for the liner at the yard?
And for those of you who have shipped similar items~How much did it cost you?

I think they charge $20 for full interior carpeting, so it should be less than that. Probably $10 or $15. If you need, I can pick it up and hold on to it until you're sure your good on funds.

the trunk liners I shipped are a little smaller but it was like $12 to shipped shrink wrapped. On a side note I shipped a lower arm rest for an 88 TC yesterday UPS wanted $28. shipped gorund and the Post office shipped it Priority mail for $13. Check around, don't let brown do you, lol

Made man un-expected stop at the local JY today. Of course as soon as we get there, A FREAKING MONSOON HITS! Had flashbacks to my bad day at the junkyard last year. :hick:
Went in search of a "New" (lol) set of wheels/tires for the Aerostar.
Found a set of really nice looking 16" rims and tires (Toyo Proxes) from a 1993? Eclipse. Hoping they will work (Lug pattern should), Otherwise ill just put em on CL. Not sure what the rims are, They have a mitsubishi stamp on the backside~Looks like they might be late model Diamante or Lancer.
If they indeed dont work, Dad also made me pick up the ugly set of Aerostar factory rims (w/ caps) and tires they had. :rollin:
Both sets for $120.00. :)
Fox wise it was depressing... 1 '85 T-Bird PICKED CLEAN, 1 84 Cougar All the good stuff gone!, 1 83? Mustang NOTHING BUT A FRAME AND BODY. However there were 2 Lincolns, Both had quite a bit of stuff left, 1 had a very leaky sunroof.

BAH! My parents are no fun.
The "Mitsubishi?" Custom looking 16" rims with the Toyo Proxes Tires did indeed fit, Although they sat a bit inward. *This Style: (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b325/Aesthetikz/diamanterim.jpg)
But... dad liked the factory aerostar 14" rims/huge tires better. He seems to prefer the uber fat truck type tires. :rollin: And mom thinks they fit the van better. *This Style: (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b325/Aesthetikz/aerostarrim.jpg)
Oh well, I tried. :rollin:

True, Lol. Just trying to make it look "better", Not a lot to work with though. ;)
Here is how it started: (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b325/Aesthetikz/aerorims02.jpg) (I actually think the whitewalls work, lol)
Mitsubishi Rims (Did not clean em' up yet): (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b325/Aesthetikz/aerorims01.jpg)
Aerostar Rims (Bad pic, It was dark and havent cleaned em up yet~Also need better center caps, These are in poor shape): (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b325/Aesthetikz/aerorims03.jpg)

Yep! Lol. Now i need to figure out what i'm gonna do with these Mitsubishi Rims. I could return em' for about 66.00 credit at the JY, But im wondering if i cant get more more for them if i try and sell 'em... But they are far from perfect.
Anyway, They had a couple Crown Vic Police Cars in the yard, I was immediately drawn to the HUGE brake setups in the front... They look to have 12" Rotors w/ Dual Piston Calipers?? The rotors were shot, But i wonder if the calipers would fit over Cobra Rotors?

Foxes are scarce in my area too. There's TONS of mn-12s everywhere, but the << 88's are all but extinct, if not ravaged when found. I am going to get a rear swaybar from a 85? tbird sport, and I got a power steering pulley which was just *laying there* waiting for me to take (sweeeet). I saw an 84-85 cougar which was ablolutelty ravaged, windows beaten in, taillights broken, paint rotted, emblems corroded, interior Burned?/totally destroyed. The other nearby yard just crushed a beautiful 88 5.0 ls cougar that they only had for a couple months, (which had a part I had left in it just two weeks ago that I planned on coming back for!!!!!!!) but they still have an 86 tbird w/3.8 with a decent interior if anyone needs interior pieces. (inst. cluster, seats, armrest, etc, its gray btw), and I think the outside is still decent too, couple of emblems, and I seem to recall the lights being descent. Also, a couple of engine stuff left, and a great looking ac condenser. I'll put up a couple pics in a couple days (maybe today) of these couple cars and whatever good stuff's left.
Anyone let me know if looking for parts and I'll take a look.

ok so heres the car I pulled the sway bar out of ( which btw now, my car + corner = FLAT)
They crushed the 84 coug just over the wkend, so no pics of that. Also the other good tbird(86) is at the other j/y nearby I'll get one of that later

The aerostars have a bigger following than these t-birds and cougars we play with. They are probably the best all around vehicle ever made, I have owned several and none had under 300k when we finally sold them. ,My last Aero...

When I worked at the Ford dealer from 85-91 we called them "edselstars" they had mega problems when first introduced, After a year or 2 they got them sorted out and they were better

Ours has been very Reliable for us, Only just lately has it been giving us a problem... BUT! it STILL drives and fights its way through it, lol. (Tranny doesnt want to shift into 2nd unless you step up the speed up, and by that point its shifting into 3rd.)

I know the yards around here have a big fork lift, you just let them know you need a car picked up and they come out and do it. Usually there's wheels and tires you can stack that they'll set it on for you.
Title: Junkyard Finds 2010
Post by: sarjxxx on April 27, 2010, 12:00:21 AM
yeah at both my yards they have a big platform they set the cars on.
You just go find the guy with the giant forklift and tell him which one you want and they grab it(usually straight through the window glass and hold it by the roof:() and stick it up there

Back and super tired from going over the entire yard.
They had 2 'Cougs ('83 & '85) and 2 'Birds ('84 & '86) The '84 was charcoal blue like mine, Only the second T-Bird i've seen in this color. The '86 was the purple wine color.
No box Foxes, And no shoulder strap thingers. I did grab the air bag cover from a '95 Mustang as i thought Watchdevil might want it. (Spindles gone)
Found a Mummified cat corpse inside an econoline van they had just brought out.
Pics of my goodies to come at some point.
Had sticker shock at the register, They raised prices and nickel and dimed me... Not how it was just a year ago.

Indeed! The lady at the register told me they did not work, so they were just charging for the box. I wheeled it back (heavy) to the electronic area and looked for anything with a speaker out, Oddly enough they did not have anything... i finally found a clock radio w/ rca outs (lol) snipped a piece of speaker wire off a cheapie speaker used my handy leatherman style tool to unscrew the speakers from the box and tested them with the clock radio. :rollin: Turns out they werent connected inside the box, One worked great the other has a snapped wire going to the cone, theres enough to solder it back together.

Whew, major score at the yard today! Found an 83 that looked to have just had the front end fixed and then it got T-boned. Real clean grille, and clear turn signals!! Good thing too, since I cracked one of mine :( Now I'm thinking I should have taken the bumper cover, because it looked brand new and I recall now that mine is a little pitted. :(
Pulled pretty decent tail lights off it as well, since the true chrome emblems on those are hard to find. Passenger mirror delete! Also unbroken console pieces to include a No Options panel!
Car was EFI 5.0 w/ AOD, manual DS mirror, manual seats, manual windows! Oh yeah, snagged that seat track as well :D
Pictures later!

Post by: jrad235 on August 29, 2010, 12:28:58 AM
Here are a couple shots of what I picked up. It all needs to be washed, but under the dirt are some very nice pieces. I think the worst parts I picked up are the mirror delete cover, and the center console panel. Both need to be repainted. The chrome on the grille is almost perfect, and the tail lights only have minor scuffing. Nothing's broken! That's why I pulled the trim panels, because the mounting tabs are all intact.
Also, I posted awhile back that the manual seat conversion wouldn't save that much weight. Well, it may not be a lot of actual weight, but it sure is noticeable! After taking out my driver's seat to put the pedals in, and then moving this one at the yard, BIG difference.

So I was at the local yard yesterday looking for a clutch fan assembly for my Mark. This yard claims they are a "late model" salvage yard and don't have any models earlier than a '90 year model, so I planned on getting the fan from a Crown Vic or Towncar. Well, I happened to see a mildly modded '86 T-bird there! It had an HO conversion, true duals with stock stang headers, 1-5/8 front swaybar, and I beleive 1"?? rear bar, front strut tower brace, t-lock rear with 3.45's, TC header panel, and the weird thing (I think at least) were the seats. Manual sport seats with power lumbar and bolster. I have never seen that before. Due to lack of money, my broke ass could only grab the fan assembly of course, the front strut tower brace (which I picked up for 12 bucks :D ), and the pair of Marchal's. I wish I could've bought the whole car. Anyway, I did grab a few pics of it, not many as my phone died while I was there
