I have a 68 cougar and all of a sudden it will jerk to the right! I can't find anything loose in the front end any one have any Ideas??
The first question I would ask is---and you didnt mention it---this doesnt involve the brakes, does it? Meaning that if you apply the brakes, then it jerks right? Usually the brakes are part of that kind of complaint. Or, you hit a pothole and then it jerks?? I think more input is needed for clarity on this. If the brakes are involved, it is something within a wheel ---leaking cylinder, etc..
No it doesn't have anything to do with the brakes . or pot holes just crusing down the road and all of a sudden the car jerks to the right
Seems to me I would be looking at the tie-rod ends and ball joints. Check for unecessary freeplay in the steering gearbox. Check the dumb stuff too, like are all the lugnuts tight? :hick:
could be that stupid valve on the tie rod, for the power steering. not one of ford's better ideas. :toilet:
I would suspect a bad steering box or maybe a bad Pitman arm, from the sounds of it. That definitely isn't a safe situation.
Bingo... If it has a seperate P/S belt, remove it and see if the problem stops.
Its gonna steer hard with no power assist, so be careful.
Thanks checked the crontrol valve seems to have some play in the ball joint have ordered a ball kit going to try it when it gets here and we will see what happends
