I can't tell you first hand, but the previous owner of my car installed KYB's on all four corners, and almost immediately changed out the rears for Monroe Sensa-Trac stating that they were too stiff. I personally don't know how much of the current stiffness is the springs or the struts.

I've had a set on one of my Mark VII's for about four years and I like them.  This car had the original shocks with 75K miles so the KYB's firmed things up but I don't think they're harsh at all.
