I need help installing my autometer 5" tach. No memory or shift light. The only part I need help with is wiring up the dash light and the ignition. Please.
Dash light 12v+ is a light blue/red stripe wire. You can tap into that off the back of the clock or the radio. The ignition 12v+ should be white/purple stripe and you can also get that from the clock.
Welp I just hooked everything up and nothing. The light inside of it works fine but the tach doesn't read. It just stays at 0. I have the black wire grounded to the engine block. I'm thinking it's maybe the coil connection. Is there a certain way you're supposed to hook it up to the coil? I don't know. Maybe the tach is broken. Any help would be appreciated.
what engine do you have 4,6,8? I'm not sure about 4,6 but they should be the same , you need to connect the green wire of the tach to the side of the coil that recieves power upon ignition (when key is turned). Use a test light on either side of the coil to find out which wire is power (wire should be green also). Also if you have a 4 or 6 you have to cut one or two (depending on which 4,or 6) of the small wires coming out of the tach in the rear.
(should be orange and brown- refer to the instructions)
The engine is a 5.0. Now I'm confused on where my coil is. What I thought was it, my dad says its the a solenoid. Where is the coil located on these cars?
Ok nevermind. I found it. Works awsome. My idle is way too high though. Its sits at 2300 lol. My idle screw is all the way out. Must be my iac or i have a vacume leak. I also got my cam yesterday. Buying some gaskets and oil and hopefully stabbing it in tomorrow. Can't wait. I love it when stuff goes right.
check your tps also that can cause high idle.
