Title: Looking for opinions on my 86' Cougar
Post by: PJsKitty on December 21, 2009, 02:02:30 PM
I have acquired this vehicle only to find out I am not going to be able to afford to do it justice with what it needs to look new again.

It runs great and has 153200 K miles on it but in need of cosmetic work.

I didn't want to junk it or trade it in and have it crushed and of no good to anyone. It does run well but needs work as you can see. I thought maybe someone would like to have it for parts or to restore a running vehicle instead of one they might have that is not running.

At any rate here are a few pictures, I am located in Alma AR and have more pictures of the needs it has if anyone is interested in seeing more.

It does have an exhaust leak btw and the cruise works better at higher speeds than lower speeds. All the power and lights and signal work also and it has the changeable digital user interface readout.

It's rough, but not worth crushing . Hopefully someone can use it.

I'm going down to my mother's house sometime in the next few weeks for a weekend visit, she lives about an hour north, and just across the border in Washburn, Missouri...if the price is right, I *may* be interested...I'll PM you if you would rather...:D
Also, how about some interior shots?

this sounds more like a "for sale" thread and not an "opinions on what to do with it" thread :toilet:

If you want my opinion, sell off the Pontiac and use the cash to save the Cougar.  Or you could just give me the Cat and we could call it a day.  It would make my wife even happier than she already is to see another cougar sitting behind the garage.

My dad lives in Fort Smith, and I just told him about it so he might be interested. He used to have an '83 5.0 Cougar when I was little.

Also I am interested in hearing what you all think it would be worth, perhaps pm would be better as to prevent anyone getting upset about me asking. I didn't know what to ask, is why I didn't post it in the for sale section yet.

I don't mean to break any rules or annoy anyone I am just asking for some thoughts on the price.

After looking at some of the restored ones I would love to see it restored, it wouldn't take very much to do so I don't think but I just don't have the money, and the pontiac has a blown head gasket, I loved my ponitac went up to 235 k miles before she went. Might also be the head itself cuz it is knocking, it still runs but well barely runs. I think this car restored would be a better investment, I would like to sell both and invest in another car that doesn't need so much work.

I think it has new speakers in the back someone never finished hooking them up. The console needs a new cover, and the driver seat has a tear in the left side upper part, seat covers on it you would never know :)

It runs and drives right? Does it need anything mechanical to pass inspection or what not? Who cares if the paint is bad and it doesn't look great at the moment. You can save for that down the road. Just saying...

That, and the 5.0 will not spit a headgasket nearly as easy as most aluminum headed v6, regardless of brand...

Think what we're getting at is...it may be better to invest in the Coug, and have something fairly reliable...just our collective opinion(s) ;)

But, if you do want to sell it, this IS the place for it

Yes it runs well, It just needs a tune up I think, it I just had the oil changed too, it did die on me today but I might not have let it warm up before putting it in gear.

You guys are making rethink selling it :) Someone in Walmart parking lot told ask me if that was my car and I said yes he said he liked it.

I'll be that you could get it running good easy. My old 86 still had the stock spark plug wires on it. They said ford motor craft 1986 on it. It had over 200,000 miles when I got it.
